Removing a 23 year old to bring in a guy 7 months younger is bringing in the next generation?
Its unlikely he will be replacing Ezra full time. Madge is giving him game time to prove himself for when Hunt and/or ARey finally retire.

I think Madge knows that Ezra can still be used to inject energy off the bench in the same way he did during the GF.

Question will be how do you bring him into the game... I'd love to see him roving around the middle.

Just balls to the wall energy and physicality... he should be raging about being dropped, so let's see if he brings it to force his way back into the starting side.

That's the role he played in Met West; he'd play back row. Sam Walker loved playing with him, and they were a great combination.

I know it's a long time ago and junior football.

I think the problem is that while Reynolds is clearly past it now, you can’t really drop a dude who is a legend of the game and retiring. He’s put the club between a rock and a hard place, so Mam is the easier option.
This was always the problem with (re) signing him. Souths weren't confident he had another 2 seasons in him, and we've given him another 4 beyond that. The truth is we didn't need him last year, not with Ben Hunt on the books, and this year seems like charity. And worse than that, it's treading water while slowly sinking. We're not rebuilding.

He's playing more games than I expected, which at first glance seems good, but we might be in a better position had he not. Last year we totally transcended when Hunt and Billy took over the halves, and as a clinical judgement, they did the job but really only in a caretaker fashion. Which, in a brutal assessment, suggests we were being held back rather than struck gold with a new combination.

I find myself dumping on Reyno, not because he hasn't been instrumental in some useful attacking plays or is ****ing up, but because I think it's well and truly time to move on. If for no other reason than not to flog a horse to death.

I drew the comparison last year to the 94-96 Broncos and it's looking more and more relevant. The worst thing to happen in 93 was the Broncos win from fifth.

In their head we can win from anywhere; they relied on Alf too much to get them out of trouble and didn't win again until 1997 and by then only 8 of the 17 had been there in 1993.

You compare that to now- relying on Walsh too much, had a magic run last year and has it crept in we can just finish fifth and have a great last month?

94-96 Broncos won 1/6 finals in that period and lost five finals in a row, bounced out twice without winning.

Can anyone with inside knowledge share what he has contributed to the team as CM claims?

If I'm honest I don't think Cam Smith is adding much value, he's never played for the club, he played for our most hated enemy and he actively used our club to make sure he got top dollar from the Storm.

Sure he's a QLDer but fark me, he is not one of us and he doesn't give me the impression he ever wanted to be, he is just cashing a cheque.

You didn`t quote yourself ? So doesn`t count . LOL .

Interesting team list. Could this be the kick up the backside that Ezra needed? I hope so, still a hell of a player when in form..

I think the club needs a independant audit of our injury list and medical recovery plans for our roster once this season is over. There is no way this is all just co-incidence. There must be some link with pre and post injury recoveries and diagnosise.

On the recent Levels podcast, Horo was saying that before the Saints game he was watching footage from the changing rooms before Brisbane came out.

No high fives, no eye contact, nothing...

Now, I didnt see it, so its his word against mine.

But...if true....thats not real good....especailly when you saw what happened 80 minutes later.

Isn't that what "focused" would look like?

Its a weird one aye, I actually then went and listened to the podcast and they do talk about it, Horo had apparently said on the call he did that Brisbane dont look up for this one just off the body language etc. It just makes you wonder what has changed? Or maybe its just looking into a shed of a bunch of guys that are struggling for form?

Not really. He's missed the most tackles in the NRL this season. He can point to that.

Dropping Reyno or Paix would be harder.

Paix, for example, is playing 80, making tons of tackles, not dropping the ball, not giving away penalties, not throwing stupid passes. If Madge wants him to run it, he would tell him to run it. He's clearly not. But everyone can see we need more than what he's bringing.

Meanwhile, Reyno isn't doing anything wrong in particular, other than being past his prime. The hard truth is we should never have extended him. But here we are.

The best thing that could happen right how is for Reyno to retire and Hunt go to 7.
Plus, Reyno is captain and literally the only players in our squad outside of Duffy who can give goal kick really well. Walshy is okay, but, if it came down to 2 points, you are choosing Reyno over Walshy to kick the goal.

We are in a predicament where Mam, Reyno and Hunt are all out of form or offering a little, especially in Reyno's case, game management / goal kicking / ****ing up the flow of the attack.

At least Madge has realised this with Mam, and Hunt isn't the immediate band aid 6, since all he can seem to do atm is play lock for 20 minutes. The speed of the game has taken its toll on both Reyno and Bunt.

Madge has honestly picked the best team option this week. Bench is dubious, I would not have Aublix in there, like, he had a few good QCUP games, which is probably the only reason he is in the side. I'd have JGos on bench with JHunt to start.
But as I said before, JGos is between Reyno and Staggs, who haven't been horrible in defense, unlike Shiba and Mam, so there is probably the logic there.

I am still very disappointed that Rogers, Bukowski or Mozer (in that order) aren't getting a shot over Bunt. If he does **** all this week, regardless of if we win, he should be out. We can't be carrying 3 out of form players on the bench (Mam, Bunt, Aublix). Like **** me.
