Because defensively he wasn't up to standard
I've not gone back to watch the dragons game and didn't watch last week's game (nor do I intend to), but Glenn was responsible for a number of the horrible defensive reads against the dragons.

I believe Gamble defends on the right which is where Glenn was during the dragons game.

Every single time Glenn turned in on the rubbish decoy runner creating massive holes between him and Gamble.

He was fucking atrocious for a guy that has played as many games as he has.

Cant recall there being too many issues with Gamble's defence against the roosters, etc. but Glenn has a shocker against the dragons and Gamble is the one that gets dropped.

I really don’t think gamble offers anything other than over the top enthusiasm. He has no class about him whatsoever.

we do need people who give a shit and put in so I commend him for that but him being dropped isn’t surprising
All of that would be fine if his replacement wasn't Karmichael Hunt who, sentimentally speaking is exciting, but putting the emotional aspect aside, brings even less footballing ability to the table than Gamble at this point in his career.

Yeah I can't really argue with that, and you know how much I like to argue.

Glen was almost absent without leave (AWOL) on Saturday night. He did throw the one finger up a number of times when we turned the ball over but apart from that he was a passenger and really a dead weight around the team's neck. If we're going to carry Hunt for the rest of the season for his leadership and talk, then we can bin Lexy altogether as he is totally surplus to requirements. We should be sharing his spot with Riki and Piakura for the rest of the season. Some of Lexy's attempts at lateral movement were D. Boyd like in so much as he was unwilling or unable to put his body on the line to get to the opposition to even make the tackle. It was embarrassing to watch. At least the young guys are mobile and willing.

Not to mention he is literally a magnet to decoy runners and falls for them almost every time, with zero reaction speed once the ball moves past the decoy.

It almost looks like "I've made an effort, im tired, I'll just bump into this guy to look like I'm trying."

I actually think the argument for getting him into the side was a fairly solid one from the point of view of building some confidence and self belief amongst the side, but surely that could still have been achieved by picking him at Centre in front of the likes of Dropley.

Glenn hasn't been good enough for almost 2 years now.

Ability wise Gamble doesn’t offer anything that Croft can’t, and Hunt offers even less. They all can be dropped but when your making like for like replacements all you’re doing is disrupting the team. Especially when the effort is there, just the ability isnt. Dropping Gamble won’t make him try harder, he already does that -he’s just shit.

THIS. 100% THIS.

Like, you obviously saw enough in him to promote him in the first place. He's presumably not changed his game since came into the NRL side, so unless you somehow thought he was going to get even better by going up a class to NRL level, I'm not sure what else exactly Walters expected him to do once he got here?

Riki had a big game for North's, lots of aggression in attack and defence. Probably worth a call up but would have to start.

Yeah Glenn has been a absolute pedestrian

Was he playing middle or edge??

I've not played the game to any sort of decent level, but in the modern game if a defender is taking the obvious decoy runner is that generally considered to be a weak / dick move??

Everyone in the defensive line is sliding, the decoy is covered by the inside man and the fullback is sweeping around the back... it seems an obvious defensive decision to continue sliding... so is taking the decoy runner an example of someone taking the easy option or taking a shortcut??

Just wondering from those in the know that have been around professional coaching or analyse the game really well.... I see us taking the decoy so often (and have for years), but is that defensive mistakes (because they're inept) or is their a degree of not wanting to put the body on the line.

This is the problem for me, Kevvie is just so haphazard in his choices. Mead and Oates are performing pretty well (not great in general but in comparison to our spuds, they were world class) but get dropped. Glenn has been absolutely woeful but keeps his spot. If it was a one off, you go hey fair enough, he might have just had a bad day. However, he is bad week in, week out. The team looks BETTER whenever he has been out injured.

So make the tough call, tap him on the shoulder and say, hey buddy, you've been a wonderful servant of the club so we will give you the choice to announce your retirement this week and we will pay you out in full for the remainder of your contract. Otherwise, you are dropped this week and unless there are multiple injuries, you aren't getting back in. Sorry cap but you can't keep up at this level anymore and your leadership definitely doesn't make up for it. So please, take the honourable option for your own sake.

The Glenn situation is similar to what we saw with Boyd in that it’s impossible to drop the captain.

Kevvie should have appointed a new captain when he came in to avoid this situation just the same as pies should have dumped Boyd.
