Can't wait for another Kenny Bromwich hooker experience.

North Sydney Bears skipper Ed Murphy could make his first grade debut in place of Kirisome Auva'a.

This could be a positive move for South Sydney.

Auva'a hasn't been the same player since 2015 and Souths could do with more fresh blood. Murphy is around the same age, has spent a large amount of time in the lower levels honing his craft, watching lesser players get an opportunity before him. The down-side is that Murphy isn't the type of player that has a lot of upside about him. What you see is what you get, so you're not going to see a big return on your investment.

It's a big game for South Sydney. Win, and they're right back in the running for an unlikely finals berth. Lose and they're beginning to lose touch at the wrong end of the season. I've got them losing this clash, going to 5-9 which would see them sit as low as 14th pending on the Titans-Sea Eagles game.

The future doesn't look bright either. They've got an away game against Penrith two days after Origin II. They followed that up with a "home" game against the Cowboys in Cairns, followed by the Broncos the week after. They could fall into a six game losing streak, 5-12, with it all to do against the Sea Eagles, Raiders, Warriors, Sharks, Knights and Bulldogs.

Would I be getting ahead of myself if I said that they'll miss the eight entirely?

Only one change for tonight's clash.

John Sutton will return from his pectorial tear in Round 1. He will come into the starting side, with Carter dropping onto the bench in place of Jack Gosiewski.

I tipped Parra to win this but I wouldn't be to surprised if the Bunnies got up. Walker at 5/8th will give them some spark and if the forwards aim up it could be an interesting game.

Somone tell Kenny Edwards shoelaces go in the shoe not the hair.

PARRAMATTA EELS 30 (French 2, Gutherson, Radradra tries; Gordon 7/7 goals) defeated SOUTH SYDNEY RABBITOHS 12 (Johnston, Brown tries; Walker 2/2 goals)

Radradra posted a try of the season contender in an otherwise forgettable evening at ANZ. In the dying stages of the game, Keary threw a desperate cut-out pass intended for Aaron Gray only for Radradra to swoop and produce a breathtaking piece of play.

The result sees South Sydney drop to 13th place on the ladder, a position they haven't found themselves in since 2008.

To add insult to injury, rookie centre Siosifa Talakai had to be assisted off the field in the 77th minute for what appeared to be a serious injury.

Souths started the evening well, shifting the ball, enabling Alex Johnston to slice through the defence but couldn't sustain the intensity through out the 80 minutes. A soft try to Clinton Gutherson who was able to gather a kick unopposed and score underneath the uprights highlighted Souths mental aptitude and lackthereof. The Eels followed that up with a well rehearsed outside inside ball play that saw lightening quick Bevan French jot down in the corner. The Eels looked like they would go into the break with all the running, but Luke Keary was able to break free and put the much maligned Nathan Brown in under the posts to narrow the lead by two.

With the game in the balance, Cameron McIness came up with an embarrassing error at the scrumbase and the Eels were able to capitilise on the next play, with Radradra racing across field to put French over for his second.

In the end, it was another bittersweet night for the Eels, virtually playing for pride at this point while Souths will look to the foot of the mountains for survival.

ST GEORGE ILLAWARRA DRAGONS 20 (Widdop, Mann, Rein tries; Widdop 4/5 goals) defeat MELBOURNE STORM 10 (Vunivalu 2 tries; Harris 1/3 goals)

Unfortunately for Melbourne, with so many stars out, this proved to be a bad match up for them. If they were any chance of winning this round, they had to invite a team into an arm-wrestle and wait them out.

Unfortunately they drew the Dragons, a team that thrives in this situation and they had the Storm's measure through out the contest. Even when Vunivalu produced another sensational effort to score in the corner, there was this feeling that St George would respond.

As it turned out they went bang bang with Lafai producing a skilful offload for his winger Kurt Mann to score, before Rein was able to take advantage of some exhausted A-defenders to put the game beyond doubt.

For St George, it was just a matter of getting the job done minus Josh Dugan and Tyson Frizell. For Melbourne, they got a taste of what life was like without Cooper Cronk, Cameron Smith and Cameron Munster.

While they were missed, I don't think Bellamy is going to be too upset. They handled the game well defensively, conceding just the one fluke try to Gareth Widdop and created opportunities.

Melbourne would have taken a lot out of that game. If they had have been more patient with their chances, they would have posted points which would have made all the difference. As it was, they made poor decisions at key intervals but those are the type of lessons you only learn on the fly at this level.

For some, it maybe their last opportunity. Melbourne continue to develop talent at an alarming rate, they do it better than anyone, and I think a few players will be lucky if they're considered again.

All in all, St George are well and truly in the mix while Melbourne demonstrated they're not a complete laughing stock without key players. It's sort of what most expected.
