Young man, there's no need to feel down

It's amusing how this match is called a "local derby" when in reality Brisbane is closer to Sydney, and about the same flight time to Melbourne. Meanwhile Cairns is closer to PNG, and about the same flight time to Darwin.
Mere details . LOL .

Reynolds and Haas are good to go.

Walters:

"We want to make sure Adam's health and well-being is at the front of everything. He is a 250-gamer and knows more about his body than any of us. He’s informed us he is right to go so we respect that."
“Payne has got a bit of bruising on his ankle. He’s looked after it this week and our medical staff are very confident he can get through the game. It’s a big game for both clubs and Payne wants to be part of it.”

Those 2 are big ins. One more than the other, but we could sure use them both. Hoping for a really good showing, but not holding my breath on a win.

Reynolds the key - you can watch this sequence and imagine how much smoother this set would have gone with him running the set.

Nice quick play the ball and switch around the ruck to move Melbournes defence..

Mam doesnt dig too far into the line here but bodies in motion with good clean ball..

Grants the target again by Jensen, his 2nd hit up. TMM joins in and switches Riki on the angle..

Brisbane come left again where Lee takes advantage of a pin-point kick and Capewell/Oates finish off a great set.

This against arguably the best team in the comp, without our best player.

The team knows what each players role is, what to do and when to do it, its simply a matter of slightly better execution which is what Arey add. The difference between now and the Siebold years is incredible.

Bring on the Cowboys...
I may be late on the train but you got 25 likes/positive reactions for a reason. Love the post and previous ones just like. I’m sure it takes plenty of time so thank you. I’m sure heaps of us are kept entertained by this forum and stuff like this does that. So cheers!

Hatred, really?

Hopefully the coaching staff print this out and whack it in the sheds for tonight's game.
Imagine the media storm had Kevvie said 'yeah we hate the cows'.

Pack mentality tonight please lads.

Crazy talk
They beat us by 26 last time, so not really. Hopefully not, though.

It's a hard one to predict, especially with the return of Turpin and our walking wounded. It's more likely to be close than a blowout is as close to a tip as I'm willing to go.

Oh Toddy .
You are a wanker mate .
I think it's always been a one-sided jealousy that's grown out of an inferiority complex up there. A bit like we have with the Storm, and to a lesser extent, the Roosters. We see "hating" the Cowboys as punching down, despite all those down to the wire games in the Thurston era.

A lot of Broncos fans were not that cut up about us losing the Grand Final to the Cowboys because they'd traditionally been our underdogs. I've never met a Cowboys supporter who was pleased to see the Broncos win.

It's like Scotland and England. The Scots always support any team that's not England. The English see the Scots like their delinquent little brother they have to keep bailing out of the drunk tank.

I don't think the storm rivalry was one sided... they were chock full of Queenslanders who weren't deemed worthy by the broncos and then we beat them in 2006, so I genuinely think they hated us for a long time and were always out to bash us as much as possible.

I'd say nowadays the rivalry is very one sided and they have turned their attention to whoever is the biggest competition at the time... Manly initially, rorters, sharks and now penrith... they just want to take on the big dog. They still absolutely love to destroy us every chance they get though, but they like to do that with most teams as well.

The roosters rivalry is completely fabricated... you can tell that because we have been able to get wins against them even when we're bottom of the table... to me that shows a level of complacency. You don't have that when it comes to rivalries... it may have been there in the early 2000's, but it's not anymore.

I think for the last couple years every team has turned up when playing us, because most teams across the comp hate the broncos and they wanted to get in while we were down. Sydney teams hate us for obvious reasons, cows and titans for the little brother syndrome, storm as per above... I'd say the warriors would be the only ones that wouldn't have a genuine hatred for us.

Also FWIW I fucking hate the cows... they get golden treatment from the NSWRL (probably because they forget they even exist half the time), so they just get to cruise along every year and then turn up when they play us, only for NSWRL to manufacture a close result for entertainment purposes.

It's funny because this year a manufactured result may actually assist us this year... I think cows have a very boring game plan, but they execute it extremely well... whereas we can play extremely well when on song, but I don't trust that we can do it consistently yet, especially when this is Arey's second game across about 6 weeks??... players busted all over the field and they haven't really been playing as a group much with origins, resting players, injuries and byes. I think we'll be clunky tonight

Yep. The Roosters are the new Manly. The Storm are the new Broncos.

I don't trust our game plan either. I think we've got this far because we're by far the gutsiest team in the comp. Which has been a wonderful improvement, but the risk of injury and burnout is massive. As we're currently seeing.

We do have the NRL's smartest player in Reynolds, in my opinion. But it's a challenge keeping him on the park. He doesn't have quite the all round skill set of Cleary, but pound for pound they're pretty even. You might include Munster in the same conversation, but I can't think of anyone else.

Got a feeling turps will surprise us with a good game. I like the guy and I hope he gets a contract at another club. Here's to hoping he plays like he did off the bench when a few years ago! Wishful thinking?
