Largely because what people loved about him has all but disappeared from his game?

He didn't light the world on fire, but he made a few nice darts, threw better passes and generally was seen as an upgrade from Macca.

The last couple of years have not been kind - he's gone slow, lost the runs from DH and his passes are sometimes forwards, sometimes to no-one and sometimes around their bloody ankles. He's never been amazing, but still managed to go backwards.
Agree...it hasn't all been bad and yes, quite rightly so ...."anything" was seen as an upgrade on Andrew McCullough
...at the time.

and as time does....it continues to move
and we have moved forward as a team..... but Turps hasn't.

I don't think there's any need to slag him off....wish him well on his way somewhere else at the end of this season
would be the most befitting outcome.

If only this was true. He showed none of that and was an eerily similar player to that version of McCullough, minus any semblance of a kicking game. He might have tried some runs from dummy half but it led to nothing, his passing was on par but less accurate. He’s regressed, but not massively. This is the same Turpin.

You say the players were thrown in too young and will come good at 75+ games but than simultaneously bag Turpin who hasn’t cracked 60 games yet.

I agree with both your posts, just found it funny.

Have I disputed that Turpin will come good eventually or just stated that he hasn’t been good over those 60 games?

I think you missed my point. It was that they were debuted too early (in age) and will have to reach 75 games before they show their quality, not 60 games at the age of 25.

McCulloch Vs Turpin

If Reynolds plays, I wouldn't be averse to Roberts replacing Turpin on the bench.

Id say Hetherington, more upsides. Bring an extra back rower onto the bench.

He's already on the bench. Need a ball player in case Reynolds goes down as well.

We cant carry an extra half all season just incase reynolds get injured. If theres a fitness doubt thats why Gamble will be picked in extended.

TMM can play halves, Cobbo can play fullback, Capewell can play centre. Hetherington can play hooker and Walters into Halves. Plenty of cards to shuffle.

I think the fewer cards we have to shuffle the better. Ideally, Roberts goes into hooker to relieve Walters. He offers more than Turpin. Hetherington can cover hooker at a pinch but that's about all. He's better sticking to what he's doing.

I agree but I wouldn't be totally against him being there until paix comes back.
Just to give Walters a spell as needed, and a back up half and variety in attack if needed to. I actually would prefer robati though in saying that, just wouldn't be disappointed with any choice except Turpin really haha

He didn`t do too much wrong last Friday .
Won`t be surprised if he gets the #14 .
Some good kicks and a try assist pass . Solid enough defence on the edge .
The week off will help his recovery . He was spent late in the game .

Let's keep Hetherington where he is.

He's not a hooker.
We could do with Hetherington being used in a more targeted way I think. He's very good when he's good. He could be used in more attacking plays because he can imitate a powerful centre with a short burst of speed, something I've noticed he has.

He has that mid to high range powerband so to speak, not a big top end but enough with his strength and competitive nature to create an opportunity for another. Of course you would first expect he'd do well his current job but I reckon they could even try and work on a pet play with him, a Hetherington Special or whatever, he's in a peak period for him at the moment, not elite but the grade below which might be the heights. A really positive member of the team at this time.

Have to agree on Roberts, wouldn't mind him slotting into the 14 until Paix is back, if Reynolds or Gamble are fit to play halfback. He wouldn't need to play big minutes but could add a bit of a spark when Walters comes off for a breather. If they don't get in each others' way, you've basically got four halves in Martin, Mam, Reynolds/Gamble and Roberts creating plays in the opposition's twenty.

Too many chiefs.
