POST GAME [Round 17, 2024] Broncos vs Warriors

I don’t know the inner workings nor the devilish details surrounding the cap and how it came to be that we lost 3 of our GF forwards and wound up with these replacements.

Flegler and Palasia weren't grand final forwards when they signed elsewhere, though - and at the time I don't know that many on here thought they were necessarily worth the contracts they were getting from those other teams. Flegs had promise but a lot of people criticised him for his hot-headedness and being a penalty magnet (a little ironic given this year there's a lot of people saying we miss his mongrel), while Palasia only really kicked on last year after signing for the Titans. We also knew we had Willison and Te Kura coming through, and maybe they go elsewhere if Flegler and Palasia stay.

He made 21 tackles in that 28 minute. Of course, the attack looks bad but Brisbane didn't have the ball.

Baker was on one leg from about 10 minutes into the game ?
I was watching the highlights he was struggling to run . Then Gosewski breaking his arm . Meant basically 2 forwards less in the rotation .
With that in mind to be competitive was a fair effort .

Or does he play like he's paid?

We saw the difference with Smoothy starting .
Wahs went through the front door . Like I keep telling you he makes a difference to the ruck defence .

The stats tell a different story. But whatever, the team has bigger problems than less than optimal hookers right now.

It's a committee, Lockyer, Scanlan, Walters and Donaghy with Lanigan the cap expert.

And what’s the hierarchy there?

Does Dave give the former two his blessing and tell Kev to deal with whatever they come up with? Or does Kev ask for players and once DD says yes, he sends them off to get them and Lanigan says you can only offer them x amount?

I’m not out to hang Kev, but if someone like Baker was his executive decision, then he has to wear that imo

We should get an encouragement star in lieu of competition points.

People are kidding themselves if they think Kevvie isnt involved in recruiting or retaining players, but at the same time, he isnt the main voice in there. It would be pretty stupid not to seek out the opinion of your head coach.

Baker isn't on big money. He is a depth signing with good size but he just hasn't turned out like we'd hope. The expectations of what he was gonna be are way off.

it sucks to finally have a pack that wins the middle and we can only keep it for a year.

Last year they got bullied by Canberra early in the season and Penrith when it mattered though .

It can work a lot of ways; I have heard coaches say I want Cronk and then the Scanlan and Louise go away and come up with what they can offer.

Lockyer might offer something as far as a board perspective of if it's a big signing and Dave would do the same. Lockyer also watches a lot of football and can obviously offer input there. Scanlan is always across moving players up from Development deals or top 30 management.

It works like a board; everyone contributes different things.

I expected nothing and I’m still disappointed

Agreed he was a depth signing, but depth doesn’t mean first 17. He got picked for round one ffs

I think people fail to realise we've been terrible defensively all year. The errors? all year. The lack of go forward? all year.
Some have been point that out for months but the wiser amongst us here shoot the realist down in flames.
The season for us was just about gone the moment Reynolds arm was swinging like Dulcifys leg. The Funeral occured Round 12 for those who missed it.
We had our chance last year, Unfortunately missed the chance.

Indeed, we missed our shot and now it's 2016 all over again. ARey's arm I'd wager was more then final nail rather than the catalyst. We were already performing well under what was needed to dethrone the Panthers.
