POST GAME Round 17 - Broncos vs Storm

Haven't posted on here pretty much all season.

The result sucked, and felt oh too much like 2013 and 2014 losses where we'd look like a formidable outfit for 15 minutes only to go down a try and quickly go into a slump and the shit referreeing decisions and name calling would be thrown around the forums like wildfire.

Personal observations:

1. Milford and Hunt are massively burning over the SOO snub. That plus the Milford Samoa ban from Bennett.
2. Broncos not playing under the radar like in 2015
3. SOO effort fatigue
4. Bennett's holiday to the UK mid-season - could have inadvertantly impacted his concentration
5. Lack of confidence - maybe it was a fluke and those 79:58 minutes in October was our time.

I just don't know how a team with the best forward pack, best halves and best fullback in the game can not be obliterating the opposition every week.

But I suppose that is exactly the problem - team chemistry and playing with and for each other.

Bennett needs to break it down, to the nth degree, tackle by tackle, effort on effort.

Forget about redemption in October.

**** I wish they'd forget about SOO 3 this year.... that's another 3 weeks of distractions. Bye round, back-up round, disrupted prep round, switch on.

Best forward pack in the competition?

You are kidding right?

We have a forward pack that at their absolute best 'hold' other top forward packs over a season. They never 'obliterate' any other foward pack in the comp across a season and only rarely are they clearly dominant (Roosters 2015 when Thaiday schooled JWH springs to mind).

We have quality halves but both are hugely down in confidence and are playing behind a forward pack that is BEING obliterated every week. If our forwards could hold the opposition we have more than enough quality and points in us to win most games and that was the story of 2015.

We aren't doing that this year anymore and here we are.

Our forward pack doesn't play to its strength in attack. McGuire, Blair, Gillett, Parker - they are some of the most skillful forwards in the NRL, but they haven't been showing that off much this year. Blair putting players into gaps, Parker offloading late 3+ times a game, etc. That's what we need to rely on. I'm not saying they need to be "loose" like Cartwright is at times, but get some second phase play going... Milford and Hunt aren't real organisers, and work best running off that.

But the main weakness of our forwards has been the middle third defence. It's still the same passive "come to us" shit as last year, only without the sting in tackles, no wrestling, and worse defence than last year too. And once the good opponents pick up their 70 to 80 metres in a set of 6, our goal line defence doesn't have the same edge to it to make up for the passiveness either, unlike last year. Move up more as a unit, hit hard in the tackles, wrestle if you are not.

Oh, and work on defending the opposition's inside passes and straightening plays. Like Johns has been saying, the team slides well, but as soon as you change angles, the Broncs struggle to adjust.

God damn Broncos cost me a perfect round for the 2nd week in a row in the tipping.

You tipped the Broncos against their bogey side in the midst of an epic form slump? Haha silly you.

Probably stupid when trying to win a tipping comp but i just can't tip against them. Never have never will. But i did advise plenty of people at work that if they want some extra money then put it on the Storm as they were paying $2.30 or something like that.

I'm the same. Never tip against broncs.

Add me. Never have tipped against broncs. Just cant bring myself to do it

That's pretty smug of you, aren't you sitting on top of the tipping comp? Even with all our losses you're still kicking ass.Damn you!:motz:

The games between us and the Storm remind me of the games between us and the Cowboys when Lockyer was playing.. And we're the Cowboys.

Cowboys couldn't dominate us when Lockyer was playing. They would come away with an upset every now and then but most of the time we won. Cowboys didn't turn the table until Lockyer retired.

I don't think we'll be able to turn the tables on Storm until Smith and Cronk retire. We may come away with an upset every now and then, but they will continue to dominate us and we'll lose most of the games. We won't turn the table until Smith and Cronk retire.

I tipped storm for a win and also at 13plus. Ching Ching $$. Those odds were just so ridiculously good.
