Seems I missed a Boyd clinic
Lol, I don't think he was the best on field. He was very good in defence, backed up reasonably well in attack. Hardly a typical 5/8's game. I'd have given Payne Haas or Lodge MOTM easily, they were both incredible but Haas with a try and a game saving tackle makes him best on field for mine.

No idea what seggy was thinking when he tried the field goal
If he pins back the ears we most likely score

Yeah Haas easily for me. I'll tell you who had a good game was Carrigan. Looks like he's starting to believe he belongs.

Haas 100% should be man of the match. Followed by Milford and then lodge (for Broncos). For warriors probably RTS and Tevaga.

Did you see the votes from Billy Moore? 3 to Nikorima, 2 to lodge and 1 to RTS. Did he watch the game? Nikorima made a couple big errors and couldn't close out the game.

There are too many past players involved in the game who are too stupid to have a valid opinion. Sure they played 20-30 years ago but half these guys know fucking nothing.

I think you’re missing a crucial point here. None of those greats would be able to slot the field goal if they were the player tackled, but it’s pretty safe to say they would still take the tackle rather than literally throw the ball away.

It was a stupid play, plain and simple. Boyd even knew it himself, it was written all over his face.

But to do you the courtesy, as you answered my question, I’ll answer yours.

I can only speculate. But I do know Milford iced a few in 2015 and Isaako did last year too. But as I said, I can only speculate. For all any of us know, we could have had their defence stretched and scored on the right wing as a result, but we weren’t afforded the opportunity because our captain threw the ball away.

What I know for certain though is that we would have given ourselves a better chance of a result if we just kept our cool.

But I do like the clip you uploaded. It clearly shows Milford was covered by 2 defenders anyway, so your point is moot. Indeed, if he gets the pass, in all likelihood he gets tackled and one of our only field goal proponents is taken out of the play.

Throwing the pass was lose-lose.
I absolutely think throwing the pass, if it landed was the right play. We're just going to have to agree to disagree there. Making comparisons to the greats is a moot point really, either they would ice the game themselves or they had plenty of support around them. Cowboys would set up entire sets to make sure Thurston gets an uninterrupted shot at the ball, Smith could give Cronk the ball 45 out and he would slot it over the black dot.

I have zero confidence in Milford slotting a field goal under pressure, zero. Dearden/SOS who knows, I sure hope they are better. The last good field goal taker we had was... Peter Wallace?

BTW, Milford should have run with Boyd to the left, around the forwards was my point. Indeed running into the forwards on the right was pretty pointless.

I can’t see the point of resting Oates. Given the importance of this game, why would he be rested unless he sustained a significant injury. Very poor coaching performance

Armchair coaching here but I'd like us to have a field goal-fake play to use on the second last tackle where we look like we're setting up a field goal but just end up throwing a short pass to Haas/TPJ/Fifita to take a regular hit up. I feel like it would be a good way to get the defensive line out of position when we try it the next play.
We definitely need to have more plays with bodies in motion rather than 1 out hitups, some teams will just gobble those up.

You’re welcome to disagree all you like.

Tell me this though; do you honestly think Lockyer, Thurston, Smith or any of the other modern great players throw that pass and simply hope rather than take the tackle, knowing you have another up your sleeve, and go the conservative route?

I’ll be astonished if you think they would.

Boyd isnt in their class. Very unfair comparison. You are talking about 3 of the very best in the modern era against a bloke who isnt a half playing in the halves. And you seriously cant tell me any of those blokes havent picked the wrong options at some point in their careers because you would be lying if you did. Smells like a Boyd beat up to me when he did a fairly decent job tonight out of position.
