Round 17 Discussion

Well my tipping has gone to crap again.

Auva'a throws it over the sidelines and the Titans are back into the winners circle.

Anybody catch the game?

Yeah. It was a fucken penalty-a-thon. Turned into a good game in the last 20 mins when the refs put the whistle away.

I thought the Titans were outstanding in defence. Paul Carter looks like a real prospect too. Bull Baily still putting in.

Souths had their chances but were just not good enough.

Unfortunately I only caught the tail end when the video referees finally decided that a head high tackle wasn't an automatic reportable offence. Strange time to decide it but the right call and hope that it remains the standard.

Brett, did you get the impression that all these changes hurt Souths? I'd like to think they fielded close to their strongest line-up so I'm pretty surprised by the result.

Souths seemed to lack a bit of direction to me. I don't really rate Adam Reynolds, but he got injured and didn't get involved much. Likewise Keary was coming back from injury which pushed Sutton a bit wider. They missed Inglis in their backline plays too. I think they'll be better than that, but GC were very, very good. Probably their best win of the season for mine.

If you combine Sutton, Keary and Reynolds and then divide by two... you'd get two pretty decent halves, I guess.

I think they need Sutton at 5/8th for now. Let Keary develop in NSW Cup a little longer.

I'd give Keary every chance to prove himself because I cannot see Sutton/Reynolds being a premiership winning combination.

They have the bye next week followed by the Eels and Raiders. I'd make a decision after the Raiders game.

I would have had them try to develop a Sutton/Keary combo, but I just can't see them dropping Reynolds.

Sutton might have been a back rower at one stage, but not anymore.

25 penalties, 27 errors.

Worse quality than the uni league comp I watch.

I don't reckon Reynolds will be at the bunnies next year, certainly not the year after.

I reckon he's bubble has burst, looked great last year but doesn't seem to have another gear

I think Reynolds has a future. Reminds me a lot of Brent Sherwin.

Souths were fucking horrid tonight though. The Burgii were horrible and coughed up way too much ball. Ditto Luke.

Most teams have figured out now, to beat Souths, you get under the skin of Sam Burgess (which doesn't appear to be too hard), then watch the rest of the team capitulate and give away stupid penalties.

I never understood the Adam Reynolds hype. He was being championed for Origin last year I think?

Don't get me wrong, I think reynolds is a decent halfback, and half of the clubs would snap him up given the opportunity, I just dont think he is anywhere near the hype he had last year

Oh definitely. For me he is basically just a boot. If ever he stops being pin point with his kicks he becomes pretty much useless. However his foot accuracy is amazing and helps them play a control game very well.

Aaron Woods is a myth. Talks a big game but I have yet to see him back it up.

Scott
Tamou
Bromwich
Graham
McGuire
Myles
Fifita
JWH
Burgess'
Douglas

All better than him I reckon.

Seriously?

The bloke has been one of the best and most consistent front rowers in the game since he came in and is starting to find his feet in Origin. He is only 23 and there is tonnes of improvement in him.

Whatever improvement is or isn't in him is irrelevant. His halfwit mate claimed he was the best prop in the game which is simply untrue, and that's where this whole discussion started.

No one says the are the best in the world because they have improvement in them

It was fun watching to see who had the worst handling - the Burgii, or MarkMini.

Souths get criticised for "not having a plan B". But they don't need one. Just like the dominant Storm team, if they played to their potential and stuck to a plan, they could beat anyone and more often than not did.

The Sutton to lock experiment has failed, as most of us expected. He might be "built like a forward" but he doesn't have the guts or the stamina. He is a creative player that just happens to be bigger than most. The fact that he can hit a hole and use his size to get through doesn't mean he should be used as a battering ram for the other 98% of his time on the field.

IMO, leave Sutton at 6, Keary can come off the bench. Luke can play 80 no problems, and their pack can mostly play big minutes, so 3 on the bench will be ample.

Yeah, after many years of trying to figure out what he is, I think we can settle on Sutton being a 5/8th. An awkward 5/8th, but 5/8th for sure. I'd say he's the best half at Souffs atm and certainly suits their structure the most. He needs to be in the halves IMO.

I never thought I'd say this, but I wish we had Sutton instead of Hoggman...
