Round 17 - Eels vs Broncos - Post Match Discussion

Good to see Junior Burger bounce back in big way.
A week in QLD cup was just what he needed.

Lol, why are you all only telling me now then?

Been doing that all season, you could've said something earlier, guys! Will leave it open a bit longer next time.

Because i keep forgetting as normally I'm drunk... I watched this game sober.

Got to wrap Beale as well.

Used to think he was a fullback and nothing else but these past few rounds especially against the Dragons and tonight against the Eels have convinced me he could make a handy centre. Some very good defensive reads tonight, did well to position himself for Gagai and was generally making good ground.

Parra did kick to the wrong wing though. If I was blessed with the skills of Lewis, the first thing I'd do is bomb the s**t out of Copley to see what kind of night it'll be for him.

The thing that worries me about that performance is that all of our trys were individual efforts, none of them were due to good play-making or organization. But they did show determination, something that Alex Glenn seems to instill into his sides.

Also worried how seem to let teams back into the game in the last 20 minutes; we'll have to sort that before the finals.

Just remember the quality of players that were out, the ones who organise a lot.

Every win during Origin period is gold.

TBH our attack has looked just as bad at times this year with all those players playing.

On a side note, Is it just me or does closing the game chat so quickly kill off some discussions?

Of course it bloody does, ridiculous situation

Prematurely doing things is what Ning does best [icon_wink

Thought Gillett was epic tonight. His try was nice and all, but it was his reads in defense that stood out. Make great decisions rushing out of the line and was Hindmarsh like in making a try saving tackle on Burt early in the second half.

Geeze isn't Gillett a player. Aren't we are spoilt for backrowers. Parker, Glenn, Thaiday, Teo and Gillett. Each one of them as adept on the edge as they are in the middle. It's a jigsaw I don't think hook can get wrong, but IMO if we want to perform optimally - Gillett has to defend on the edge as much as Thaiday needs to attack there. Some of his defensive reads and executions tonight were phenomenal.

Reed is an out and out centre, and a great one at that, I'm not even sure he could play in the backrow at a pinch. His defense any deeper than 2 or 3 in is horrendous. It's pretty much a highlights reel of how not to tackle when you're in the middle.

Of more concern is that this is the second game in our last handful where we have leaked tries right through the middle as soon as Macca goes off.

I like to think we aren't the same side once the finals are on [icon_wink

That is two weeks in a row Gagai has made over 200 meters.
Who was the last Broncos winger to make over 200 a game? [icon_shru

Hardly a telling stat considering 95 of those metres came from a run with no one ahead of him.

Still, he had an excellent game.

He was always in for a big game.
He told me and Yow Yeh before the game to take out a loan and chuck it on him for first try scorer.

He was awsome but 100m of them 200 was a 100m try. Still awsome player

He did well, but 100m came in 1 run. Plenty of backs pass 100m in a game.

I still want him to put on some size. That will come in time though.

Taking in the circumstances, I'm more than happy with the win, but even more with the good signs shown by the youngsters.

We do need to tighten up the middle when Macca goes off. Speaking of which, one of the best games I've seen him play!

Gillett was the stand out imo, but despite my votes going to Gagai and Lui, I thought Macca, Glenn and Beale also deserve big wraps. Beale played his best game so far as centre, Glenn was enorous in defense especially, but also carried the ball well.

Gagai dropped one bomb, but was otherwise very good and did well catching Walker one on one besides his tries and good runs.

Lui got 1 POTS pt as a reward to his massive improvement this season. He was one of the best ball runners, backed by his stats of 15 runs for 103 mtrs. Josh McGuire also very good on his return from injury.

Wallace directed the team well, although he made a few bad decisions on the last tackle. He has a good short kick, but lacks power for the long kicks or bombs. Norman wasn't bad at all and has a frigging boot on him.

Shocker from Reed and Copley very quiet, while Hoffman was equal to himself, without standing out. Hunt seems to be losing ground quickly and only had one good kick of note, being otherwise pretty much invisible.

Finally, marshmellow Kenny did what he does best, Anderson, Hala and Dodds did the job, without fireworks, but Hala needs to build his resistance to be more effective, although he wasn't the player with the least minutes. That dubious honor went to Carl "the keg" Webb...

So 3 people in a row mention he makes 100metres in one run, think we got it the first time, lol.

That was a boring game, have to say, origin ruins the regular season, it really does.

I'm gonna lay off Macca now, was very impressed with him, he seemed to be getting better before he got dropped and IMO he was def one of our best today. Hunt was shit, Baptise should take the bench hooking spot when he's fit.

The commentators at the start of the game pissed me off saying Parra are going to struggle without Hayne and Mannah... AH HELLO, Lockyer, Parker, Thaiday, Hodges, Yow Yeh, Hannant... Dicks.

Very happy to get 2 points, with a bye coming up and a Titans game we have a very possible 6 points. Then we Vs the Storm, if we win that game then we are are easy top 4 and have a genuine shot at the minor premiership.

When was the last time we came 1st? I think 2000, been a long time.

Happy? And I'm the one with whiner under my name... :P

Oh and how could I forget, Kenny is absolute shit, please never play first grade again.
He makes metres for the other team more than he does for us.

Carl Webb may have got the least metres but he made 66 off 7 runs while Kenny made 67 metres off 10 runs.
