POST GAME [Round 18, 2023] Broncos vs Dolphins

We had just seen the Cows put 74 points on the tigers. After Dolphins went down by nearly 60 the week before, it was probably a good chance to flex, but we did have mitigating factors that should have tempered those expectations somewhat. Hard to gauge just how well the Dolphins played and how poorly we played. I think with the outs we have it was about the right outcome, but could/should expect a little more from our reserves if we want to be a smokey for the GF. Our system isn't there quite yet.

It was one of the stronger teams Dolphins have put out and we were down a few troops.

We’re never going to belt Titans, Dolphins or NQ. These games are derbies and usually the ladder position is thrown out the window. I said it pre-game, Dolphins probably won’t play a game that means more to them than what tonight would have meant to them, between tonight and the end of the season.

Yep, I agreed then and now. We probably could have exploited a few things a little better. Lacked polish. Defensive structures were out, but Cobbo won a lot of contests against Kodi, just couldn't fully capitalise. Walsh would have been killing them tonight, I reckon. 2 Points and +ve PD. Can't complain too much at the top of the table with some big outs. We have some luck with the timing of all these disruptions, actually. These late byes are a blessing with regards to injuries and getting the team organised with the subs.

Closer to the field than what I thought we would be but still had to watch the game on the big screen when they were up the other end.

Didn't get to see the game, how did Piakura go?

Very quiet, only got the ball 9 times. Did his job defensively, but made a couple of errors and gave away a penalty. Didn't get any ball in the attacking zone.

A very very quiet game because he was barely used.

Sounds like he is being a bit under-utilised in attack so far, hopefully the more time he spends in first grade, the better his line running is used.

Like many have said here, Smoothy isn’t smooth for NRL level. Perhaps a best park footballer. After his efforts & general game awareness, I expect Paix to call in Kev & demand a selection from our next game.

I must admit that apart from few kicks he made, Billy seemed too good when on park. His defense was immense.

Haas was in beast mode & played like possessed all game. Must be extended for long.

Patty, Palasia, Piakura, Koby, Willson, Oates, Staggs, Jensen & Marty are good.

Sailor was average.

Cobbo & Herbie went up another level and must continue the same trajectory.

That brings me finally to our half’s. I must admit that I’m not impressed. Adams kicking apart from a bomb to Kodi was average at best. Wonder what our 1st bye has done both of them. Hopefully after our 2nd bye, they start playing like they have been playing before.
