Round 18 - Panthers vs Broncos - Pre-Match Discussion

He has gotten predictable and cant break a tackle like he used to as often as the opposition is wise to him now.

It might look that way sometimes in Origin because they pick the best defensive guys to handle him (just like Inglis) but he's perfectly capable of schooling other NRL centres.

As for the rest of this season I agree putting him at 5/8 and letting Copley play centre is the best option but Nuffman will be picked there for the rest of the season unless we're in a horrible slump and looking at completely missing the finals because that's just the way our coach handles selections.

Would love Hodges to tell him to piss off to the wing mid-match and rack up the try assists.

I wonder if this week Hoggman will throw a dummy , step off his left foot and be immediately tackled? Then repeat that three or four times.

hoffman will pass but the ball will either end up trickling on the grass 1 metre away from where he passed or it'll end up over the sidelines making it easier for the ball boys to collect.

Despite being on top of the table does anyone think the Panthers are serious premiership contenders?

The resurrection of the Panthers has been fantastic but I still believe they are a bit of a way off being a premiership team. They are short on experience and are short in a few positions that will most likely be a downside in the finals.

They play as team first. They play for each other. They enjoy their footie, and they play like they want to win for 80 mins. They do it well. Their position on the table is justified for mine.

The effect on their structures and execution with the loss of Wallace will prove interesting.

I don't. They are a solid side but there's truth to the popular opinion to attribute their position in the table to a favourable draw and lack of Origin commitments.

Can hardly blame the Panthers for either, but I believe they'll be found wanting against the real contenders.

I don't think they are a chance at the permiership, just making the 8 is a great result for them after where they were a couple of years ago when Elliott left.

I think they will be found out come finals time but will be excellent experience for some of their players like Moylan, Whare, Mansour, Segs, Peachey, Docker, Taylor etc who have had none to little finals or big game experience.

I also think we will beat them on Monday night. We tend to play to the level of our opposition and these guys play for 80 mins as a team, if we match that we will win.

Gasnier and Anasta saying Hodges is out in teh Warriors v Eels pre-match show. Anyone heard if this is the case?

Confirmed yesterday I thought.

Gillett and the other three stars from Brisbane’s State of Origin contingent, Sam Thaiday, Justin Hodges and Corey Parker, returned to Red Hill on Thursday for tomorrow night’s clutch game against NRL pacesetters Penrith.

Amongst an article which pretty much states we wont make the finals.

Either Hook wants to pull off a masterstroke, or he wants out ASAP.

Funny...I didn't read that into it at all. What I did read was that we will be playing teams who are all in the final 8 and who all have a shot at the premiership. it was worth noting that this year we have played very well against the top tier teams.

I'm hopeful we win this upcoming match but I have no real confidence in the team. We certainly will need to be on our game. Like others have said, losing Wallace has helped us but I think Penrith will simply grind us. Making the eight is not going to be easy and really, this is the first of the vital games. Griffins future will be decided in the next month. I'd be happy to see him step down.

Their backline contains their main danger men IMO. Get in Sowards face and he loses his cool pretty quickly. We should win this

Yeah, their backline is excellent. Seggy is the type of player who can kill us too (and has done so before).

Segeyaro can be rocks and diamonds

....hoping for rocks tomorrow night.

McC will explode back from injury so even if Seg has a decent game, his opposite number will still outshine him.
