I think a lot of the angst here about Kotoni getting his hands on the ball more is because we haven't seen anything from him in attack for quite some time. People are equating lack of production with lack of effort or involvement.

In 2020 and then when he came back in 2021 he was scoring almost a try per game and was tearing up on the edge.... In 2022 he was far more ineffective in attack. I don't think he was necessarily doing any more / getting more involved / doing anything differently in 2020 and 2021, I think he was just converting more opportunities into positive plays.

I still maintain that he's put on far too much size and he's lost some of the speed and explosiveness that used to make him so dangerous. He used to get in between tacklers and use his strength to push through the gap - now he often initiates contact and goes into a tackle almost standing totally still, and while he manages to often shrug off the first defender, he's completely flat footed and easily wrapped up by the 2nd and 3rd man in.

I'd love to see Staggs recapture some of that attacking form - we paid him to be a superstar, not to be essentially a second rower - focusing on defence and taking hitups on the edge.

I get the criticism of him as a player, I don't particularly share the same views but I get that.

I don't get how someone on the internet can have enough knowledge about the man to attack his intellectual capacity, that's just pure hatred and nothing else. If you're having a go at him and saying he has no brains or words along those lines, I am convinced there's nothing he can do on a footy field to change how you feel about him.

He made a few poor choices, so what? We all have done that. That's how you grow as an individual, you make mistakes.

Not sure about “pure hatred” that’s a stretch. Like when someone calls you a dumb c**t when you do something wrong. They don’t mean you are “less than or forever stupid” it’s a reference to a specific task at a specific time.
Before we go down a rabbit hole, let’s not forget we’re talking about footy players and not the members of the Annual Mensa convention. A lot of us on here have either watched footy for a few decades or played at different levels. I have and respect to ALL players at ALL levels…but boy oh boy, you can get some rather dull tools in the footy shed.

Can't speak for everyone but I've certainly vacillated on my opinions on Herbie, amongst others. Good luck keeping track of the ongoing consensus on Payne.

As much, if not more blame should go to Reynolds. I dunno why we aren’t utilising Kotoni well but it probably has something to do with spending little time in genuine attacking situations.

I don't disagree with that, but he has to get the ball first, and not just on the 5th. A lot of the plays are wasted on "hit ups."
