On reffing, Im really trying this year not to whinge about it, as even though we easily copped the most penalties all last year, we still won the comp, so maybe we did get them at better times like everyone said.

The team that has momentum just seems to get so much leeway, and the team getting pounded just gets done for everything.

And don't get me wrong, you strip back the 8-3 count, 1 is Walsh kicking out on full, 1 is Tawha being an utter moron late in the count, and 1 is forgetting how to pack a scrum. So to me, that's 5-3 and maybe im forgetting a dumb one.

The ones I have real issue with are blockers on kicks reception. We again seem to be done for these week after week, and the same shit at the other end doesn't seem to be given as much.

6 agains.. they are just a momentum feeder really. The play the ball is still a mess. How one team can just walk off mark taking the markers with them, get a quick PTB then run right where the gap is behind markers and then also get a 6 again, whilst the other team trying to break momentum gets told to go back and play the ball. I truly dont get it.

It just feels like we are heading to touch football with these scores and the speed.
We were up 20-6 and then the ref decided ... nah we can't have another blow out.

5th tackle six again - Try
Reece kicks it dead - Try
Penalty for something - Try

Parra leading at halftime and any momentum we had built up dead.

It's also like 30 ****ing degrees and humid as ****... so if you fall behind in possession you are ****ed.

We should've been leading by more than 20-6 though... attack looked slow and disjointed inside the 20 and couldn't convert all the possession they had early

I try to look at it from his perspective.

In his view, more ball in play is better for the game. It provides fans with more bang for their buck and while there are concerns with blow-out scorelines they'll consider alternatives like changing the kick-offs to make the game more balanced.

The problem is you're putting more pressure on the players and coaches. This in turn, leads to rash decisions, which usually leads to a lower standard of play. It's also becoming harder to referee. If captain's challenge has taught us anything, you can find a penalty in just about any play if you search hard enough.

It is only Round 2. I think we have to give these players a grace period (even though the media won't) and accept these Under 20s type scorelines are going to be more common.
Agree completely mate. Just the way the game is now

I'm not ready to riot at Red Hill yet, but I am digging out my pitch fork and torch over the weekend. We have to start showing some ticker in defense, that was some arm grabby stuff shown tonight.

And that is a problem. Relying too much on one player is not sustainable.
Nah it's not they just need to funnel the ball to him as the key attacking plan. Not talking shit about the other players but whenever he has hands on ball he looks dangerous every time. He sucks in defenses and causes space every time he touches the ball. Reece is the sort of player that needs to be a ball hog for the attack to flow.

I think if we're going to enforce defenders to play the game fairly, we need to enforce attackers to play the ball on the god damn mark with their foot.

That would at least ease some of the pressure.

Reynolds in those post match pressers is unwatchable. It’s the same every week from him.
Also, I have concerns with him moving into a coaching role as of next year. He just doesn’t look to give a fk.
He’s more interested in selling t-shirts and face masks.

I’ve never been sold on him to be that guy for us, even when he wasn’t completely busted.

Doesn’t talk to the ref and stand up for his players, was probably a little pest off the field with the boys and why Carrigan tried to choke him out, and yeah just doesn’t look like he’s interested 99% of the time. Has gone to water at almost every opportunity save for his conversion in the prelim last year

Can’t see any leader qualities there

The defence will mostly sort itself out when there's some confidence back in the team. It's not going to be fixed in a week. Defence is all about attitude, when there's a lot of confidence, the attitude is better.

Right now the main focus should be reducing the amount of errors and being more consistent across the 80. We do a good thing, then we back it up with a bad thing, we need to start changing that.

And get some ****ing AFL players in training next week showing this team how to handle a high ball.

Walsh’s bullshit heroics last year really papered over some glaring cracks in this team
Seems to be not much resiliency this year so far to defend the try line
Shibasaki looks like he has taken 4 steps back compared to last year
He was atrocious tonight
Doesn’t get any easier next week either
