POST GAME Round 2 - Broncos vs Warriors

So, what are people's thoughts and opinions on the extended time Nikorima had last night? He handled it with a fair level of confidence and distributed the ball pretty well and added a bit of pace to the game. Certainly no replacement for Macca defensively, but it was interesting to see him on for such a long stint. Was this just an interchange option experiment or was there an issue with our 9? Or did I just dream he was on for longer than normal?
Not sure if Macca did something to annoy the coach or whether Wayne was trying to take advantage of the tired Warrior forwards but Nikorima definitely came on earlier and did add some punch in attack. He was blowing hard when he came off though and was probably on too long I thought. Wallace was a little better than last week but I can't understand why he gets so many more minutes than Joe. Joe looked very unimpressed on the sideline waiting until after the 60 minute mark to come on and rightly so. He is playing enormous and looks better than Wallace to me.

Not saying it's the reason but it was a pretty poor effort defensively from Macca which allowed the Warriors try.

This. Like when we had Folau and Hodges on one side, the defence was always stacked and consequently our left side (including the one and only Stevie Michaels) scored more tries.

Now I know we were never going to be beaten with 5 to go, but if we're going to practise field goals, surely we practise some trick shots in going for a try? Everyone loves a grandstand finish, but more importantly if we're down by a try with 5 to go later in the season.
I like the field goal at 12 up with 5 to go. It ices the game . The Harlem Globetrotters/ warriors super ending is taken out of the game..

I meant Moose was mistake free. That's why he stood out . We were generally mistake riddled.

McGuire actually wasn't mistake free, he dropped the ball once, I think it was late in the first half.

I was really impressed with Boyd, particularly with, as others observed, his kick returns. He looked really quick and so determined. Great to watch.

It was also so good to see some combinations work a treat on the right hand side with 2 great tries, and the defence was excellent for most of the game.

Just need the error rate to drop, and the left and right side combinations to gel further.

Also impressed with the forwards. Things are really starting to look good for this year. I just hope Oates won't be out for too long. He adds so very much to the team.

I am really really enjoying the way we are playing, and improving each game. Can't wait for the Cowboys game.

Bennett definitely experimenting... he's asking his other players to step up:

Niko played plenty more minutes

Macca seemed under induction to kick more

Milford was very much the dominant half - had almost as many if not more kicks than hunt

Parker played less minutes

Interchanges were very different. Seemed to work though

Hunt seemed very disinterested last night. . Commitment wasn't what it usually is. Didn't look as sharp. Was walking a lot of the time. What could this be? Did Bennett ask him to pull back and make milford step up? Or is it a lack of motivation since the origin ban? Is he maybe not trying as hard now he knows he can't make origin?

I doubt it's a lack of motivation. . That's not his character. I just wonder what it is

Good game from all the lads especially Oates, Gillette, Glenn and Boyd. Those runs back from kicks were impressive, a leaf out of K Hunts book. Thaiday was great from the bench. I'm a 50/50 Read fan but full credit to him, he had a fantastic game both in attack and defense. Obviously has worked extremely hard in the off season to get back 100% and looked like it's paid off, keep it up mate!

Filthy with Matulino. He made a shoulder charge that stuffed Boyd and a cannonball on Blair in the 2nd half as well. You could see Blair wasn't happy about it cause he really went beast mode up the middle afterwards.

Bodene Thompson was dirty as well, he did the tackle that injured Milford and did the knees in the back to Boyd as well, dirty mother fuckers.

And it wasn't that long ago that they cracked down on this and it was an automatic penalty, most likely on report too. Why do they only police rules when they're in the media?

Agree with UB, Thompson was a grub all night too.

Ah yeah I forgot to mention that bastard. I was grinding my teeth whenever he got involved.

I'm not overly impressed with the win. The only reason we ran away with it was because they lost two backline players, so they had reduced bench and two forwards playing out of position.

Arguably the same story with Parra and Norman. If we continue that shit handling against full strength teams we'll get a rude shock IMO. The good news is it's early in the season and fixable.

We've had two try's scored against us in two games. That's quality defence.

Our defence made the warriors kick penalty goals

All in all I thought they improved a little on last weeks game and looked ok for round 2. On the negative side there were too many silly errors, Lukes try was a disgrace and Hunt isn't quite on song yet. On the positive side I didn't think anyone performed really badly. Milford, Oates and Gillette were outstanding. Moose and Blair were very good up front. As much as I said all summer that we should have kept Copley and ditched Reed on last nights performance I was wrong. He looked good and Boyd was very good as well. He was everywhere he needed to be and it was great fun watching him channel K Hunt on his kick returns. Kahu wasn't at his best physically but is the ultimate professional and didn't let anybody down. The only player in the 17 that is under any pressure to stay there is Wallace and he wasn't terrible. Until Ese'ese or Timu start consistently producing games in the ISC that are free of errors and missed or ineffective tackles Wayne will probably persevere with him though. My only complaint is that I would like to see Joe get more game time.
