PRE-GAME Round 2 - Titans vs Broncos

We already have a long injury list unfortunately, with a weaker squad than last year, this is not what we needed, particularly given we are likely already down three middles in Haas, Lodge and Asiata. I think Copley is good to go, not sure on Arthars.

Something like:

1. Isaako
2. Mead
3. Farnworth
4. Niu
5. Copley
6. Milford
7. Croft
8. Pangai Jr
9. Turpin
10. Flegler
11. Glenn (c)
12. Riki
13. Carrigan

14. Hetherington
15. Bullemor
16. Kennedy
17. Teo

I expect we will see this side named with the question mark on Hetherington v Paix v ??

Hetherington is on development contract ... we need a few more inuries before he can play

Kennedy is not a bad fill in but he definitely doesn’t replace the guys we lost tonight in the middle.

Who knows what we do though when the next prop inevitably goes down.

Huge pressure on Pangai and Flegler to lead the team forward now.

We're in a bit of trouble already.

Oates and Copely have to come into the squad. I would probably have Oates on the bench over Hetherington purely as a more universal backup. Saves us carrying a hooker/half. Glenn can move into hooker.

Going to have to run aa strict rotation next week. Fleg wont hold up for more than 30 straight without losing the plot.

I get everyone wants to be positive about tonight "it's a fresh start", "we played with more heart" and all that shit.... bit we were 16-0 up! We had a fad out in the trial before this and we had them multiple times last year. Who cares about injuries and fucking ref calls, this team should have been bloody hell bent on protecting their lead like their life depended on it. Same "bad luck". They are pea hearts, it's that simple. I know I'll get dislikes for this but I'm over it. The excuses have worn thin.

Mate you don't get it, the NRL don't want teams to 'protect leads', The new rules are specifically there to stop it, they want tries, they want lead swings, they don't give a fark about injuries, fairness or integrity, they are in the business to manufacture drama and 'excitement' whatever the cost.

The new rules allow the referee to both manipulate and 'manage' the game outcomes to achieve that drama and excitement.

The Titans aren't half as good as everyone has hyped them up to be this year. They were coming almost dead last all last season before they went on a run to end the year when there was no pressure, they were already out of finals contention and they were playing inconsequential games, I think they come back down to earth this year - Fogarty and Taylor aren't good halves and there's only so much that a couple of young second rowers can help.

Despite some awful refereeing and horror luck with injuries, we were still in the game against Parra last night right up until the end. Had Milf or Croft kept their head and taken control in the middle of the second half I think we win that even with everything going against us. Having said that, we owed a lot of our 16 point halftime lead to Parra being woeful.

The injuries are the biggest worry... We might not have the cattle to get over the line, but based on last night I think we'll show some heart and give it a real crack. The Titans are very beatable. I hope we take it to them.

We’ve got Titans and Bulldogs. We have to win at least one of these games to give our season much hope because it doesn’t really get much easier.

The attacking structures, though clunky and unpolished, were far more effective than last year - especially with Milf popping up on both sides of the field and with Asiata (rip) playing as another half. Kevvie has really stamped his mark on the attack. Hopefully it keeps building and Turpin’s passing improves. I worry that a few losses on the trot and the confidence will die.

Defence was far far better and this is where the biggest improvement was noticed but again, a few heart breaking losses and heads will drop. Last season we weren’t getting completely thumped until mid year than it all went out the window.

Goldcoast are very beatable but it will be harder without the guys who were injured + Haas. We really need that first win to get the monkey of their backs. Hopefully some of the boys take the challenge of facing Fifita and Tino personally.

If the Broncs play like last night and keep 17 guys for the 80, thus is definitely winnable and if anything, last night shows them what to expect from the refs against the Titans. There is no way we are getting anything remotely fair in terms of officiating against this year’s fairy tale team. At least that idiot with the whistle last night showed them what to expect next week.

6 agains are killing the game. Just as you think a great defensive set is being put on a set restart gets called on tackle 4 without any explanation. It’s a real buzz kill for me. I watched the whole game last night because it was the broncos but the other games I usually fall asleep to now.

it takes all the defence, toughness and grit out of the game and turns it into a 7s / 9s tournament.
Sure there’s more tries but is the product as appealing to watch? Hell no.

add onto that the fact that refs have the ability to constantly make game altering calls which won’t be stopped and scrutinised and analysed...

it’s honestly awful and I’m sure the only people that enjoy it are Gen Z tik tok watching, fortnite playing kids with split second attention spans who are bored unless there’s a try being scored every minute. Maybe that’s the point and we’re all just a bunch of dinosaurs.

I reckon we've got this. Can I remind everyone we were in last night's game up until the last minute, with three men down. One of them was our only Origin player (on the night), who'd just scored two tries. Another was our forwards leader. And the other, our experienced Mr Fixit. We only let in one more try than we scored, and some of us have questionmarks over at least one of them. And we were dissallowed a try that most of us think should've been awarded, and even so it was on the back of a glaring fuckup in communication that Kevvie will be all over.

Kevvie has plenty of things to work on this week, but at least attitude won't be one of them.

I guess the main difference so far is that the players respect and actually like the coach

Sadly, missed the first half of your game (will watch in full now). Not going to lie, was a bit of a scare checking the score at HT. Happy for Meady though. I'm hoping all concerns will be alleviated this afternoon.

Looked to me like he's got them back to basics and simplified everything. In the first half it was more obvious: they were sending the ball out the back line to the wingers like every team you've ever played in practiced. And it resulted in tries. If you can stomach it, try to remember what Seibold had them doing: running around like headless chooks bumping into each other; passing blindly to the next forward off the rank; or standing still clutching their dicks.

But the cream on the cake was no Darius Boyd. FMD that prick stunk up the team. Good riddance.
