I don't really understand why we went right here.
We had a better chance of scoring on the left. A scrum in an attacking position, I would have thought they would have come up with an attacking play from the scrum using Mam and Oates on that left side. Faking to throw a cut out and going short to Oates, or drawing in the winger and throwing a cut out to Mariner.
Attacking plays from the scrum have been working for us quite well this season. I don't see why we didn't stick with what's worked for us throughout the year.
Part of being a good playmaker, and I’m not saying this necessarily the case because I also think Adam misses the best decision pretty often, is to create an expectation from the defence to subvert it at a later stage and catch the defence of guard.
A very simplified example would be, if we attack on the right side on scrums 2 or 3 times then set up to do the same on the third time but all of a sudden swing left, than it will in theory catch then off guard.
The best halfbacks are playing these games with passes and kicks over 80 minutes.
