PRE-GAME Round 20 - Broncos vs Panthers

I would be very surprised if Tom is fit tbh. Very surprised. It was quite a nasty injury seeing as he tore the ligament from the bottom of his foot. I dont think we will see him for another couple of weeks tbh. He is a tough bugger though, so i wouldnt write him off.

Anderson i just dont see him unseating Maranta without some football behind him either.

The Panthers are most potent on their left side attack imo so I wouldn't be against naming Seve in the centres this week to see how he goes. Waqa Blake is a big body but he hasn't exactly been breaking through the line. Our sliding and scramble defence should be good enough to shutdown any shapes they throw at us. And if we can get guys like Bryce Cartwright running sideways as oppose to taking the ball to the line they will start to get frustrated. A big problem when we played them earlier this season was the amount of offloads we let them get away with - it was ridiculous. They were making metres quite easily. If we defend like we did last week and wrap the ball up I think we should be fine.

Agreed, it's the type of injury that requires all of six weeks to get back from.

However, if his recovery has really come along then I'd be keen to give him another shot. He impressed me on debut and he's the type of player we need filling in.

I'm not as confident in Seve just yet. If there's nobody else, so be it, I'd rather bring him into the starting side than having him play off the bench. If he isn't up to it in the first twenty then you can always switch Glenn over there and call Su'A (pending if he's fit because he DIDN'T PLAY NRL OR UNDER 20S OR QUEENSLAND CUP OR COLTS OR ANYTHING RUGBY LEAGUE RELATED). :tongue_smilie:

I'm still not desperate enough to see Whitchurch come into the side.

Anderson is two weeks away; he ran the water on Saturday for the Jets. Not sure where the he will be back this week came from. I wrote last week it was three weeks away.

Opacic is still a few weeks away too.

Any chance of Seve coming in?

If Whitchurch could improve his handling I think he could be a really good player. He runs hard and is good defensively, I think he would make a really good back rower. He just has issues holding onto The ball. Not sure if it's something you can work on if you naturally have butter fingers.

Does that mean he's not listening to Wayne?

Nah, Benny speaks straight to the heart. To use anything so unrefined as an ear to listen to the great man's words would be the act of a philistine.

Well it's quite obvious what the plan for this game should be.

Shut down their offloads. Force them into a grind and we'll come out on top and beat them comfortably. They aren't a grinding team.

We saw what happened last time when we allowed them to offload at will. They created a lot of second phase play which broke up our defensive line and had us at 6's and 7's.

I would like Gillett to be running at Cartwright. He is good for a few missed tackles.

We should be targeting him often. Try and tire him out. He is the player most likely to spark something for the Panthers.

If our line speed is good and we get up in their face, we'll force them to make errors.

By the looks of it they will be missing Campbell-Gillard.

No actual ear problems, they had to be drained all last week just so he could hear and wear special head gear.

He must be using cotton buds too often

We should put highballs up to Moylan inside there 40 each set and jam the shit out of him. Maranta on Mansour is a concern.

Marion Seve train on wing today. May be Seve gone play on Friday.

MATT Gillett will not play against the Panthers on Friday night after injuring his shoulder in last week’s State of Origin match. But Gillett is a chance to suit up the following week against the Roosters after club medical staff checked him today.
Depending on how his rehabilitation goes, Gillett is only expected to miss a match or two with the rotator cuff problem.
“He has had scans and the good news is there is no structural damage to the joint,” said Broncos’ High Performance Manager Jeremy Hickmans.
“He should only be a week or two depending on how he responds to treatment.”
The news was not so bright for centre Jordan Kahu, who couldn’t get through his return from a pectoral injury in the game against the Rabbitohs last Saturday.
Kahu had missed a month of football and got through everything at training before the game.
But he has hurt the muscle again tackling against South Sydney and will miss at least four matches.
“At this point he won’t require surgery,” said Hickmans.
“Once again it will depend on how he responds to the rehabilitation. We will treat him for four weeks and then will have to assess the injury again.”
The Broncos will get lock Corey Parker back from suspension this week for Friday’s match against the Panthers in Brisbane.
Youngster Jaydn Su’A has also served a suspension out of the under-20s Origin match and will be available for selection.

Well that explains why Su'A didn't play..

Too bad Gillett will miss this game. I didn't think he would miss 2 games.

We did alright last week without Gillett... Would be nice to have him but if he's not right then I'd rather save him for more important games coming up. I think we can beat Penrith without him given than Parker is back.
