POST GAME Round 20 - Broncos vs Titans

CP13 up on Triple M shortly.

Greg Bird said in the Titans post match press conference, that he thought Blair should have been sent off for his hit on Elgey. When Bennett was asked about that, he basically said, "Didn't he just get back from suspension for 8 weeks?"

War Bennett.

Haha, all hail WB!!!!!

The thing I like about Hunt this year is he is staying around the contest more; last year he would go bang then disappear for 30 minutes. He's matured and it shows in his football. He's communicating better and passing to space for guys. That Parker try was vintage Kevvie. Then he combines his form from last year and runs for a try of his own.

Last year he made 23 line breaks, this year before last night 5; but he's created more line break assists 16 last year to 24. His tackle busts are halved but his kicking metres are up. He's a more well rounded player this year.

The Broncos' second phase play is helping him; he stays out the back and waits then quick shift to the edge for backs to take advantage or he gets an off-load and runs for himself. He's picking the right option more this year not just the big option.

So true. For mine, all that remains is for Hunt to develop a combination and understanding with Gillett like Milford has with Glenn. I believe Gillett is an attacking weapon who is way under utilised.

Agreed. He does have his once a game blonde moments .......but when he jags the right line to run it pays dividends.

It's more about coaching Gillett to run those lines, than Hunt utilising him more imo....

Gillett can keep doing what he's doing and hit hard in defense whilst we have Glenn, Parker and Wallace hitting those holes. How good is it? Our highlights real for this year would have to be one of the best of any team over the past few years.

Unless it's those runs back across the angle from 20 out like what we've seen in Origin (and once or twice with Barba), he rarely runs holes. He gets the ball, looks up and it almost seems like he runs every option through his head before he tries to step/jink his way into one. Need Oates to give him some lessons

I'm a huge Gillett fan, and props for his massive improvement in defence, but he needs to up his attack a little now while keeping that standard. Maybe the harder defensive edge is taking more out of him so his attack is lacking energy?

If you re-watch that game, you will see that Gillett actually did a lot in attack, just not a flashy as in the past..

Very different style. The "hole" running Glenn or Oates do is from short balls at the line. Gillett more often than not gets the ball early with the defence about 5 metres away and tightly set. The go-to plan is that if the defence is set, give it to Gillett who is bigger than Glenn and can push the defence more. If the defence is retreating then give it to Glenn who has that quick burst of speed at the line to exploit half-gaps.

I agree with this a lot.

At the same time, I'd suggest that the combination Milford and Glenn have is very different to that of Hunt and Gillett and is also complicated in a sense by Hodges's presence on the right side. Hodges tends IMO to do what Hodges wants. In fact, I am unsure if there is any combination worked out between Gillett and Hunt, unlike Milford and Glenn who seem to follow each other everywhere in attack and defence. Gillett appears to be left to his own devices a lot of the time, unless it's a set play.

Maybe as Morkel says it's a part of Bennett's structure. In any case, I remember vividly what Gillett is capable of with his running game, passing, offloading and even kicking if given room and quality ball. I guess I just want to see Gillett run more than 5 metres before he hits the line.

Also, for mine, hole running is equally set up by the halves and is part of the game plan, as much as the receiver picking the right line to run out of the blue so to speak. Anyway, I think Morkel is right, and the plan is working. I just miss Gillett with the ball with a bit of room to move.

Copley sucks, limited minutes and still finds a way to drop the ball. He should be sent to the lions. The roman or the brisbane ones, I don't care which.

Everyone else, well played.

Maybe you were watching the wrong player.

No, I definitely saw him drop the ball in his limited minutes.
