Round 21 - Broncos vs Sea Eagles - Pre-Match Discussion

I haven't posted in a Broncos related thread for a while (barely watch a full NRL game now unless I have a vested interest in it) - but does anyone actually rate Jack Reed better than the likes of Kahu etc? I haven't really seen him improve from his first year; he's just one of those players who is just 'there.'

His defense is pretty good, and he has some aerial skills, but he's probably the slowest centre in the game, has become a ball hog too, and seriously lacks in terms of attack when compared to Copley, who will hopefully now own the position.

And yes, I rate Kahu and even Hoffman way above Reed as well.

I'm happy that I'll be stoned as **** cause we're going to get destroyed.

That assumes we won't be in the ball carrier's face as soon as he gets the ball, we leave players unmarked and don't use our edge forwards and most importantly, our backline.

It's a simple question of discipline, playing to our strengths, and mistake fee execution. So it depends on which Broncos team turns up

When was the last time the Broncos were that kind of side? I don't see it changing tonight.

Well, we have done it - in spits and dribbles which of course is the problem: consistency for 80 minutes.

We showed v Warriors, in patches, what a fast defensive line speed can achieve, and we used our backline really well v Manly in Rd 12.

I am just hoping that tonight we do it consistently. If we don't, we will get smashed.

In fact, Manly will beat any team who isn't up in their faces for 80 minutes to stop their relentless bodies in motion = go forward with options everywhere, and their superb speed of execution

Our forwards will determine how close we get to winning. If they actually band together and smash Manly's forward pack, then we might have a chance. They need to come out firing (and not just Corey doing 3 hit ups per set). If they roll through us (like the Storm) getting to an attacking kick in the first set, then we give them the ball basically inside our own 20 with 2 tackles up their sleeve all night, Foran and DCE will just carve us up.

When we played them last time, they had an off day and Foran almost single handedly muscled them to a victory. With DCE fit and firing, it's a massive ask.

We've become the proving grounds for the real premiership contenders. If you can towel up the Broncos on a Friday night, you're doing pretty well.

PS also Wolverine jerseys will clash massively with our away strip

I'm sorry but a 26 point loss is not getting them anywhere near a victory.

And why is it that when we have a big win these days, people just trott out the line that the opposition had an off day. In our first game against them this year, Manly only played as well as we allowed them to play. And we beat them with speed of the defensive line, ball movement etc.

That game also showed why I wish we had more day games.

Foordy I seem to agree with every post you make ha.

especially the day game bit.

You could tell from the kick off that the mentality of the Sea Eagles was shit.

A win is not outside the realm of possibility but it's certainly unlikely. Manly seem to be hitting their straps, and they're always a big ask at home.

Agree with others that our recent victory shouldn't be discounted due to them being out of form. Bad day or not, beating them by 20+ is a compelling case for what we are capable of as a team. Not too dissimilar a situation to how the Storm ripped us a new one (despite looking sub par recently).

Tipping Manly, as I think we're rightfully underdogs by some margin. Hopefully we can at least score some good tries and go down swinging. Another 12 point handicap early and it's Good Night Irene.

Memo to Hook/Ben Hunt:
Kicking on the third tackle in the first set is NOT a good tactic.

My point was Foran played out of his skin and the rest of the Manly squad were average. IIRC, there were a few no-try decisions off Foran as well.

Every time he got the ball he almost broke our line (5 tackle breaks too). That was us at our best and Manly at 75%.

We need to be as good as Round 12, plus 25% (plus Brookvale multiplier of at least 15%). We're probably currently at Round 12 less 30%.

Can we see a 70% turnaround in one week?

What do we have up our sleeve to make that happen?

I'd assume we'd wear our home jersey or our 2014 white heritage jersey so there's no clash.

Rumour has it Hodges plans to run from dummy half 16 times tonight during periods when we are on a roll. No word on if he plans to pass tho.
