Round 21 - Knights vs. Broncos - Pre Match Discussion

I'm getting pretty excited for this match, it'll certainly give us all an idea on whether we've improved this season or not. TBH I'm not too worried whether we win or lose I just want the team to put in for 80 minutes and realistically we'll need to be 3 times as good as we were against the Cowboys to be any chance. Here's hoping to another improved game from Hunt at halfback, a solid game from Hoffman at fullback (with at least 2 tries) and plenty of forwards passing at the line. Hodges has already reached God status so he can do as he pleases.

I don’t rate Lui at all so hopefully Reed makes a return which shifts Stagg back to the bench and Lui into an endless abyss somewhere, however it’s likely to be Slyney who gets dropped in that case.

I'd like to say that I feel the same way but I can't. We did that against the Warriors and I'm still gutted by the loss. Even last week, which I'd consider a really good effort (the attack faltered but defence was excellent except for that scrum), I would be similarly pissed off if we'd lost.

I just want a win this week. Followed by a win next week. Until we make the finals. Or until it is mathematically impossible for us to reach the finals.

yeah for me its only about the W. if we lose by 1 point we may as well lose by 20.. who cares the season is pretty much done, regardless.

win this week and we go into 4 outta 5 games at home and thats when i would say that anything is possible.

Just watched a few Knights games: stock 2nd man plays and ... a game plan almost like us. Why am I not surprised?

They seem vulnerable to a short flat pass to a running support all over the field. A great opportunity for Hunt>Gillett

Uate can get the ball in the middle with room to move and wow, is he ever quick. That is where I am worried: the speed of the Knights outside backs and even Boyd's pace. Didn't know he could be that quick in the Roosters game when he scored a length of the field, runaway try

Wonder if Maranta will stand his mandatory 20 metres back from the line and leave his inside defender with a 2 on 1?

IF you play like you did against the Warriors , your pack especially against the Knights....they will be dead meat.

Seriously the Knights struggled against the Warriors forwards and the Warriors weren't playing as well as when Brisbane nearly / probably deserved to beat us ( I rate your pack highly when they are in the right frame of mind ).

Good Luck for the game , it's one of this weekends I won't be missing.

He is the franchise player of the club so they are building the rest around that one player.

Plenty of Warriors fans are nervous about Ivan Cleary luring him off to Penrtih , Johnson has had a couple of minor disagreements with Elliot ( Johnson was one of our players who tweeted that they wanted Iro for coach ). Kevin Locke was the other......the club have been slow in renewing Lockes contract , Locke is likely to replaced by Sam Tomkins at Fullback if the Rumors of Tomkins signing are true.

Obviously no one here wants to lose either player. But Johnson will be targeted in any case , and since the Panthers are taking / have taken a number of our players already , that threat is a serious one.

Locke has played Five eight / he was a half, plenty would like to see him go there next year if Tomkins is fullback. I don't know if you guys rate Locke or not but he would be a good buy for any club.

Tomkins may just as well play six and Locke stay at Fullback , it seems the plan is to have those three very fast / evasive players in the one spine with Thomas Leuluai at hooker.

Nathan Friend has been offered a life line to stay this week after being told to look elsewhere. But to answer your Question the only way the Warriors would let Johnson go is if he wasn't happy , Johnson is the type to go where it suits him , he's a temperamental sort of fellow.

You would hope that this week we can come out strong and keep up the intensity, we will need to against the Knights to win.

I don't know if you guys rate Locke or not but he would be a good buy for any club.

I think it's pretty much 50/50. I rate him highly. Mostly because, as you said, he is also a 5/8th and has a good unselfish ball playing game back there. The Warriors don't always seem to make the best use of it though. Tomkins is clearly a better player though, but I'd still easily take Locke at the Broncos if we didn't get Barba or Milford.
