Round 23 - Broncos vs. Eels - Post Match Discussion

No look passes are so Benji Marshall .......over rated and extremely hit and miss

Hayne's was a miss. Ridiculous to try and absolve him from any responsibility.

It was a shit pass....

100%

Hayne apologists can blame the winger, the opposition, the atmospheric pressure but at the end of the day it was a shit pass that was never on. If hunt or prince had thrown that pass everyone would quiet rightly be saying wtf was that!

As for Hayne, he's the Inglis you have when you don't have Inglis. Hayne is class, but Inglis is just a cut above.

After thinking about it more, you're probably right. However, it would be interesting to see him play for a Souths, Roosters, Manly or Melbourne rather than the rabble at Parra. I think the gap would close very quickly. It isn't a jail sentence to mention them in the same sentence . I think Rugby League in general needs him somewhere else where he can reach his potential.

...and the winger should've been there. Its as much Jarryd's fault as anybodies but when he's the only person doing anything on his team for the last 2 years I think you can forgive a bit of a blow up at a player who shares some of the responsibility for an error.

This part I totally agree with. It was a one man show last night.

yeah the pass was haynes fault but he is a class player. i think he's forced into trying too much at timse because of the poor side he's in.

i laugh that stuart said norman wil be 5/8 next year. hayne i do believe has the ability to be a great 5/8

If Maranta was the winger BHQ would be throwing 100% of the blame at him.

Name the 15 teams that have an 80 minute hooker? Interested to hear these mythical teams

Melb, souths, Canterbury, tigers, manly, roosters, dragons, eels, sharks, crushers, reds, dolphins, donkeys, raptors, the team down the road too

Sharks hey? So have John Morris and de gois morphed into the one person?

Okay, the pass was shit. That was the least important point to take away from my post. Second only to CF bolding a spelling error.

The fact is, I would trade any player in our current squad for Hayne, and this includes my favorite player, the 31 year old broken down Justine Hodges. Hayne isn't over rated anymore, he is probably the most bagged player in rugby league. People see that NSW stink, and the Eels stink, and ignore all the stats that show he's one of the best players in the rugby league.

People hate him for what? He has never done anything negative, on or off the field, that hasn't be equaled or surpassed by the majority of the current QLD squad. The only thing I can think of is the odd sulk, and headbutting Slater. Neither of which I have any problem with considering his circumstances and considering Billy's history.
He's no Nate Myles, or cap cheat, or Brent Tate.

Hayne used to be a diving douche, but to his credit he has really matured. My respect for him went up when he saved someone from drowning too.

The dragons have the two as well. I'll reiterate what I said last week as well. Macca does almost as many tackles as smith and Farah in his forty minutes this week additionally he ran virtually time he had the ball resulting in at least two personal line breaks at least one assist a try assist and some creative ruck play isolating defenders getting easy meters one on ones and quick play the balls. To be fair apart from errors the eels played very well in attack. Moi moi and manah were smashing it up the middle but due to maccas brilliance moi moi was found out defensively. Jayne was mostly brilliant in attack as well.

An 80 minute player is a luxury which allows a team so much more flexibility for its bench, as well as, in Smith's and Farah's case, it provides continuity in the team's direction. Mind you, Hook's use of the bench negates any advantage that would give us.

I would love Macca to play 80. His contribution last night for mine was special, not just individually, but the way he focused the team. Fortunately, Wallace didn't derail things when he came on.

Having said that, I now concede that Macca just isn't blessed with Smith or Farah's level of fitness, so we just hope that when he has a rest, Wally doesn't blow the momentum. Last night he didn't do too badly at all.

As for Hayne, looking at THAT pass, for mine, it was just desperation. His winger should have been more switched on and he was standing too far back: he didn't read the play, and the FB who was coming up, also read it badly. He left his run too late. In any case, I reckon we had that play covered.

More worrying for me was the way we let Hayne dictate play on 3 occasions. The above one, which might have been more of a problem if they had an extra man up, and they were all in position as we were when Gillett set up Reed; the play where we just let Hayne run to set up their first try - that was dreadful. We know what Hayne can do and we just let him have all the time in the world to do his stuff which was all class.

Third, and this does really concern me, was when we let Hayne get outside Kahu, and it was good play by Hoff (and good luck Hayne had no support) or it would have been a certain try.

If those 3 lapses happen again against better sides , it will cost us dearly. Our defensive line structures need serious work.

on a gigantic upside... including a bye and a draw, it has been 5 weeks since the broncos lost a game.:thumbup1: That is refreshing considering they had lost 20 of 27 prior to that.

Mate, love your optimism. Always so good to have :thumbup1:

Is there anyone else who thinks Wallace somehow slows down the rest of the side around him, both physically and mentally? Like no one really looks comfortable with him on, not just Ben Hunt.

Anyone other than FourEx that is.

Start a poll......
