Round 23 - Souths vs Broncos - Post Game Discussion

Also I don't think Barba is our future. I know people get excited whenever he does something, and they tend to forgive the mediocrity he puts in. But he's only good every once in a while. I really hope Ashley Taylor is as good as they say he is.

Have said all year that we are a team whose whole adds up to less than the sum of it's parts, and that continues to be true. On the bright side, you add in another part named Milford and get the coaching right then we're in business. I've written off this year long ago, unlike last year at least the next year is promising.

Still, we have to close out 2014. For next week why don't we just give Marmin Barba a go. Hoffman is obviously out and it might be worth exploring Vidot in the forwards.

Also think Gillett needs to be dropped to the bench. He's just dropped off and isn't playing with the same desire he had when he first started. Give Oates a crack in the starting side I say, he's done very well with every opportunity he's ever had.

Oates has been impressive but he's only on for 10min. At least he dragged the Souths forward pack with him for another 10m after he was tackled.

I like Copley at Centre but that last try was inexcusable. Very poor defense.

Hodges...that knock on, that penalty in the very next play. The 3m dummy half runs. The try doesn't make up for them.

There have been gaping holes when the defense has allowed our guys to run across field but no one ready to run on or back inside.

I'm not sure what Maranta or Glenn did wrong. They played pretty well and with a lot of heart. When Maranta has brought the ball back there have been few options for him as Souths had a good line formed every time.

The Vidot drop turned the game into a demolition. Souths had a simple and effective plan. Kick to Barba and send Inglis after it. Inglis seems to enjoy inflicting pain on us and we don't like shutting him down.
 
I didn't think we played that badly except that too much dropped ball completely stuffed any chance and any momentum we had. Not for the first time this season either.

Been a fan of Vidot but stop fucking around with stutter step n run hard at defensive line. Bombing a try n gifting another doesn't help either.

Even the dumb arse commentators noticed at scrum time the size difference between the forwards. Huge disadvantage with no real props. Why is this not obvious to those recruiting n the coach.

Just disappointed with the effort again. It's do or die n we're no where near the level we should be.

Please, someone give me some hope for the future.
 
we should have flown Locky or a recruiter down to Melbourne to escort him all the way to Red Hill. Instead, low and behold, we got complacent.
 
Hard to blame Vidot when he was our best go forward all night but man 24-16 with the kick to come and all he had to do was catch and fall over the line.

And the Tuquri try... Man..

I still don't rate Souths. They are a heavyweight fighter. You stay I'm there long enough and dodge and weave they'll tire, possession turns and sure enough you can get over them.

The worst is we might fluke a win over the dragons and knights only to probably bow out, once agaom , at the hands of the storm

i don't think it would be a fluke, beating either the Knights or Dragons, we are better than both those teams. but i suppose some people on here these days seem to think that any game we win is a fluke, regardless how well we play

agree. at the end of the day we just had to be a little bit better and we probably come home over the top of souths. same thing happened earlier this year, we should of beaten them. they are premiership favourites again but teams like manly melbourne etc step up when it matters and souths cant get away with just flat track bullying teams.

its pretty much destiny that we win the next two and get all hopeful only to lose to the storm. sigh

Only took him 5 years or so to reach that level, his career development is coming along well.
Soon he will be able to play 80 a week for a whole season.

there are only a few hookers who play 80 every week in the NRL. and those that do, also took 5 years or longer before they were capable of it

Agree with everything else you said but Reed was the least of our problems tonight. I can't use the fact he also got a try as I think Hodges hurt us as much as he helped us.
