He stood up when it mattered.

His first performance at halfback in a new side. Something to build on.

Ginane or Ennis said something early on about too many cooks and I think it rings true. While Reynolds is out, Hunt is the man and I think he stamped a bit of authority on the group tonight.

Happy with the outcome, fuming ****ing mad at the officiating yet again.
Tawha might be the biggest milking cat in the comp, and that is saying something with the likes of Harry Grant and Mitchell Moses in the competition. Bloke didn't take a single tackle without clutching at his head or neck like a giant unwashed pussy.

Carrigan needs a time out.
Riki needs a time out.

Staggs is the ****en man, and anyone calling for him to be dropped this season needs to uppercut themselves.

Walsh looked great. No shit passes (Sproj) and looked dangerous everytime he got the ball.
Jensen was immense.
Karapani and Talty were great.

Hunt got better as the game went on.

I dont think we are finals material yet, but we have elements that look great.

Kicked well too. Really liked how he was controlled in attack, no rushed kicks early in the set when attacking to hand over 7 tackle sets like we've seen time and time again.

I think he's still a bit sheepish with his hammy too, and fair enough.

I think Walsh will get a lot of confidence out of tonight with regards to his running game. That is easily the cleanist he has been able to run for arguably all season. He ran the ball back from kick returns and looked like breaking the tackles in quite a few occasions. I also liked seeing him run up the middle more like he did tonight. It really does help to have that extra speed he can offer there.

Said it in the match thread, **** I love hate this team.

That was absolute garbage weeks out from the finals. Our defense was made to look like school boys at times.

Patty Carrigan, take a week or two off mate and find yourself. You've gone to shit.

Riki, if he's playing in '26 in the run on team, our R&R need to be fired into the sun.

So much to dislike in that win.
whoopty doo,

Can someone explain what happened from 28-14 to 38-28?

They let in 60 last week. As soon as we got some ball, they were tired from the big forwards pressing them in the first half and they crumbled. You could see before half time their middle 1/3 were out on their feet. Their lightning start to the 2nd half was just shocking defense on our part. Had that not been diabolically poor, we would have really put a score on them once things settled.

Also we got no injuries apart from jojeski who isn’t that important

Just so we all know, and before the negativity enters this thread - Benny Hunt was the one that at 28-10 down turned to the group and something to the effect of "get to ****ing work, *****".

2 points.

I also noticed this. Got into the huddle and sprayed them. We saw the results. Fair credit to him.

Anyone who wants to be happy with that win are welcome to it, I won't shit in your wheaties over it, but I just can't feel it myself.

It's Round 24 and we are lightyears away from the real contenders. Melbourne and Penrith seem to have a Plan A, B and C all ready to go all season. We are flat out just winging it as a Plan B. We have been left behind in what it takes to be successful in this cheap, manufactured, low brow dog of a competition.

With all of our resources, our historic pedigree, and all the hatred from others that you could ever need for a siege mentality, the best we can do is concede 28 in a clunky win over a very poor Dolphins. They pull out that sort of horrible start against a true contender and they get belted by 40+. Meanwhile we settle for a 10 point close call where the defence took the night off.

A couple of footnotes:

- We play worse when Patty is out on the field. We need to work out why.

- Whoever our attacking coach is, the man who is supposed to organize our setplays and our offensive "philosophy", sack them.

- Defensive coach isn't far off either. Is that Barrett? Yeah well, why is it surprising we're conceding 28 when that spaz is given yet another gig he doesn't deserve.

- Fitness at least seemed to be good. We stayed energetic for large portions of the game, with some pretty pathetic lapses sprinkled in (looking at you, Shiba).

- Walsh will be a superstar of the comp one day, but those silly errors like that kick out on the full have well worn out their welcome.

whoopty doo,
People getting carried away with a win, not seeing the bigger picture. We're in mid August, finals around the corner and we dished up garbage, only winning because the Dolphins were worse.

That's not worthy of celebration. We play to lift the trophy, not play to win the derby. That's the GC team's game of choice and **** that noise.

Thought we'd play well with this spine, as I mentioned in pre-match.

Walters and Hunt were complimentary to Walsh in a way that works a lot more naturally. When Mam, Rey and Walsh play together, you get a feeling a ball is going to be dropped any second. Walters kick to Karapani was a great "footy iq" play.

A bit of the "too many cooks" in the latter scenario. When they link up it is fire, but when they are all slightly off, it is a dumpster fire.

But F**K me, Dolphins milked so many penalties.

And, honestly, even after that blunder from Riki, I genuinely think he has improved a lot more since the start of the season, his defense and kick chases are a lot better, and he now makes more metres, that lead to fast PTBs, which he wasn't even doing in 2023, arguably his best career year.

We have 3 weeks to fine tune this lineup for finals. Which I think we can do, as long as only Walsh and Hunt call plays.

And with JGos out, does Piakura come back in if he isn't on extended concussion protocols?
Or do we think JHunt comes in, and Va'a Semu gets a go?

Dont forget though, we only conceded 22 points to the Storm, who arguably the best team in the comp, after losing both our halves.
We are not as bad as people make out, granted i still think we fall short when it matters, but we are definitely not a bad side.
