O
Truly this is the defining game of our season. If the mettle is there then a win is possible. If we win ugly and have little continuity then we will only be celebrating another week alive. The time is now for a polished and professional performance, now is when we should be looking like premiership material otherwise it is just a false dawn in a season of mediocrity.

We don't have the squad to be premiership material but possibly good enough to make the finals, that is very debatable as well. Might have to wait till next year CP.

Like many also rans this year we are probably only one or two players short of an excellent team. We do have some good quality staff and it looks to me that the only thing ( aside from those players mentioned ) missing in the earlier rounds was a good attitude. Although I like Hook it must fall to him as he is responsible for the teams outlook. From memory , teams in the past had a blend with mature strong forwards and mature halves with some youthful enthusiasm elsewhere. I wanted to see the old (WB) style team but we seemed to have a younger and younger squad each year. I liked the way we bought some hard edged experience when we needed it, an example was Harvey Howard who ended up with a premiership ring after several years of fruitless hard graft.

Staff refers to all employees, players included !

Unless kahu and stagg practiced their defensive combinations a lot I don't see us winning. Their outside backs are class and our makeshift backline won't be able to stop them. Our forwards will need to dominate to get a win. I cant see us defending repeat sets.

How many tries do we concede because our wingers persist in either staying back 20m or leaving their opposite. I'll say it yet again, if that happens, we lose.

No straight line defence, no man on man and + missed tackles, we lose.

Our defensive structures SUCK, have sucked and will suck until we get a defensive coach with a football coaching !Q >90

Agreed.

Watch the Roosters ..... aggressive line speed and good formation for the full 80 minutes.

It's an attitude thing me thinks as we can do it SOMETIMES, but not all the time :001_rolleyes:

I also think Wal had a better game last week. I think Macca showed he has some great vision but he has to work on his passing. The slow service from dummy half from both Wal and Macca is still killing our attack. Anyone who has played halfback has had it drilled into them how many metres are lost for each error after the play the ball. A slow pass, poor accuracy, the receiving player having to slow their run, or put in extra effort to catch it due to it not landing right in their hands at the right time.

All these things eat away at the time we have to pull off an attacking play. Thats why DCE/Cronk look like they have 10 minutes to do as they please, while we are forced into doing one out hit ups.

I don't think it's that simple.

For a start, the too many of our play the balls are too slow = slow momentum.

DCE/Cronk have so much time because they have slow defensive lines in front of them, and they also have forwards actually running before the dummy half has the ball in his hands so when they get the ball one or 2 out they are at good speed and they have support.
They play the ball quick and Smith e.g. is off like a rabbit so the momentum keeps going.

Manly and the Roosters are experts at this as well. Always bodies in motion, always constant momentum pushing forward, cutting down the time the defence has to make the right decisions.

Smith and Farah also actually sprint and run angles a lot looking I say, looking, for runners who are usually there, and they wait before they pass rather than just toss it automatically to the first runner. We might, but they are usually standing too flat so they get hit before they can get a full head of steam.

Our overall game is slow.

Mind you, I have seen some real improvements since Hunt went to half and Macca has lifted his speed a fair bit since that change.

This match will tell if it's a flash in the (frying) pan

Sorry, I wasn't saying that it was our only issue from dummy half. Just that it was a major one. :)

You officially know more than Kearney @rnabokov, go to training at Red Hill and tell him that.

For the past couple of years whenever I watch the Broncos on TV I ask myself "why do we always look so slow in everything we do compared to good teams?"

Sounds like most of us know more than Kearney. It's called the bleeding obvious. Oh, and I don't speak Kiwi. Never could understand the Haka. Thought it was a cocktail

I honestly cannot understand why something so simple is so hard for this team to do consistently.

What makes it worse is that there have been times when we have moved up fast, sat the attacker on his arse as he got the ball and forced errors as well.

I'll let you know when I remember that time. actually, I think it was when Henjak coached. It was a game against the Dragons. How perverse

There is a mindset at the Broncs about conceding off side penalties. I'm pretty sure it's a coaching thing/strategy to avoid giving ground and extra sets with the belief we will benefit from less tackling. It's almost a concession that metres will be gained against us and the best thing to do is concede that as an inevitability without expending too much energy with the payout being fresher legs late in the game and fewer tackles made. How's that working out for you ,Hook ?

That's almost up there with Chris Anderson's 1 marker strategy.
