Round 25 Discussion

Eels are ripe for the pickings with their defensive structures on the edges how they get their centres rushing up on the edge back rowers.

Funny, calling a team absolute dog shit when you're team is the wooden spoon team and currently is nearly last. If only we were as good as the dog shit standard set by Cronulla.
Well, it's no secret how I feel about the current version of the Broncos. They've won 20 games in three years and if I consider the Sharks as "dogshit" (which they are) then the Broncos fit in a category below that. Perhaps cowshit or monkey poop. I dunno, can you think of a suitable term?

Either was TPJ, either is Haas, for 3 more years ffs. Where’s the outcry about how ridiculously under paid Grant is???!!!

He wasn’t underpaid when he signed it.

Eels have done better than i thought but they are starting to fade.

As I told Fozz, they're the Cronulla Cockroaches and it would be just like them if they made the finals on the back of this season. They're a team that lost their coach early in the piece all their star players have been unavailable for long periods. No Shaun Johnson, no Wade Graham, no Andrew Fifita, no Josh Dugan and Matt Moylan is playing on one hamstring and yet they've still won 10 games.

It's a credit to their systems and their ability to develop players like Kennedy, Katoa, Tracey, Mulitalo, Brailey etc. and a few astute signings like Talakai and Rudolph that has allowed them to remain competitive.

I thought last night Canberra had an opportunity to redeem a difficult season and at least put themselves in the finals frame and trick themselves into thinking they're on the right track. It's the same song and dance from Canberra and it's something Morkel has touched on various times in regards to Stuart coached teams. There is always a honeymoon period where the team buys into the tough love and they're prepared to run through mountains. However Stuart just always seems to fall short of the mark and those methods invariably backfire. The cracks formed the moment John Bateman signalled his intentions he wanted to return home and they continued when they signed that lout Curtis Scott and leaked all of George Williams' personal information for the sake of PR, losing the trust of the locker room.

Canberra are a fractured locker room who can't work together as a group, and they're falling apart because the senior players are closing on retirement. In fact Jarrod Croker should be well and truly a year into his retirement but from what I've read he's agreed to an extension? A bizarre signing if I've seen one.

Melbourne still look extremely vulnerable to me. They were missing some players but they still lack direction and players like Harry Grant and Ryan Papenhuyzen won't receive the same space to weave their magic like they did tonight. They should be too good for most teams, but if they come up against a red hot Manly or Penrith then I don't think they'll be able to go with them in those big moments.

I still think this is the Panthers year. I feel like all the stars have aligned and Melbourne will find themselves in a similar position as 2018-2019 where they're just missing that edge.

As far as the Gold Coast Titans, for the NRL it would be a great result if they got a new face in the Top 8 just from a marketing stand-point. It's more potential stars for the game to promote and a Queensland club which the competition desperately needs for the finals. Just listen to the media coverage surrounding the AFL and how salty they are about the lack of WA teams, Gold Coast making it would solve that problem.

The ball is in their court really, but if they fail to make the finals it just confirms that they're a very inexperienced team that still needs time to develop. If you look at the stars in that team, it's largely made up of players like David Fifita, Tino Fa'asuamaleaui, Moeaki Fotuaika and AJ Brimson who are all Under 23. Some of their performances seem very symptomatic of a team of their youth with some amazing attack but also some really lax defence and errors.

They're a team of the future and when players like Toby Sexton, Jayden Campbell, Lofi Khan-Periera etc. come of age they're really help that core out. I think players like Jamal Fogarty, Brian Kelly, Corey Thompson etc. are helping the team out but if the Gold Coast are going to be successful it's going to come through a strong system that helps shapes better footballers.

So essentially it would be great for the competition if the Titans made it and it's something the Titans ought to achieve this Sunday. However I also think it would be a false dawn for them and I think they need to continue grinding away. Next year has to be the year they go 12-12 or better and really put their production line in place. They won't go anywhere if they're relying on players like Esan Marsters, Aaron Booth etc. to help them out.

I would prefer cowshit over dogshit. Cowshit just seems cleaner for some reason. It's just grass. I would much prefer to step in cow shit than dog shit. Cow shit is just bigger. Maybe I would rank it like: Cow shit>dog shit>human shit>monkey poop
