So if I'm not mistaken, the Storm have secured the minor premiership. So I would say they're likely to rest players since the results don't matter anymore for their next two games.

If they were playing anyone else yeah but they love playing us and they're always up for it... I reckon they will try and make a statement

They won't be resting anyone.

Bellamy loves beating Bennett.

We'll be seeing the full squad out there.

I hope the Storm don't rest anyone. I want the boys to test themselves against a fired up full strength Storm. that way they will know exactly where they are sitting as premiership contenders

Does that sound like Craig Bellamy to you? Giving Bennett free favors?

It's more about Melbourne. Why risk your star players being injured in a game that doesn't affect their ladder position? I'm expecting them to play, but wouldn't be surprised if they rest cronk or smith over the next two games.

Personally, I want them at full strength so we can beat them and make our own statement.

Storm are specials for the premiership in my view. Their record this year is simply incredible, particularly in defence.

With our history against the Storm, I believe we are only capable of beating them once between now and the end of the season. I would much rather that be in the finals than this week, and I think the Storm will be bringing their A game this week to claim the minor premiership anyway.

I heard a Cronk interview today. He said it is unlikely Bellamy will rest anyone from games. It is more likely they will miss some training but he said they tried resting from games a few years ago and it backfired so they aren't keen.

If the Broncos are to win on Friday night, they have to mentally turn up, and believe in themselves, and the fact that the Storm aren't the invinceables that so many think they are. If the boys defend like they showed against the Bulldogs, and believe in themselves for the full 80 minutes, they can and will beat the Storm.

I agree. It will need to be a state of origin type attitude from the boys to win this.

I have liked the way the young forwards have stood up in the last few weeks especially Wallace. They could be our ace in the hole .

They've been a bit shaky the last month, they'll have everyone on board drilling combinations.

Its good because now we are in the finals but still playing for position there in, there is little chance of complacency which is vital heading into the finals. It is a lot easier heading in with the flick already switched than trying to switch it on once there.

I think the Sharks are done. I think the Storm are too professional to go that way. I think the Raiders are one or two weeks from having their Sharks peaked too early moment but may well just be able to ride it to the prelim or GF where they will then get smashed.. I think the Cows have been foxing and have a lot to play for in the next two weeks too. I think the Dogs have been mid-range top 8 due to simply being more consistent than most other teams but don't have another gear, they are not contenders. I think the Titans are the one team it is impossible to read, the sum of their parts was always better than each individual component but Hayne gives them that edge they didn't have earlier, I don't think they will have it this year and a probably due a smashing. I think the Panthers are the real wild card, I just don't want to play them in week 1, I think they will win and will make a prelim. That leaves us, I think the way it is looking now, if we can finish 5th, I believe everything will be set for us to make a real run to the GF, I think we are the one team no other team wants to play outside of the Panthers.

Shane Webcke says Sam Thaiday’s 250th game can be the catalyst for the Broncos title charge

SHANE Webcke says the 250-game landmark for his 2006 premiership teammate Sam Thaiday on Friday can ignite the Broncos finals charge.

Webcke says another enthusiastic match against premiership favourites Melbourne at AAMI Park would be part of “timing a perfect run into the finals’’ even it did not bring a fourth straight win for Brisbane.

“If we put in another strong performance, especially in light of it being Sam’s 250th, it will be more a measure of how far we have recovered and turned things around,’’ Webcke said of Brisbane’s rebound from seven losses in a nine-game stretch.

“To get to the grand final takes a hell of a lot of energy and when we started this year very well, there was always, always going to be a point where we dropped off.

“The Bulldogs game last week, you could see they have an eye for it again.

“A real good indicator of how you measure a football team is speed off the line and the willingness in defence — it was there for sure in the win over the Bulldogs.

“This weekend is very important as Melbourne are clearly up there with the best in the comp.’’

The 2006 Broncos, the club’s most recent premiership side, and this year’s team both had a sluggish period of losses after the State of Origin series.

In-form Thaiday can surpass the final career tally of former clubmate Justin Hodges (251 games) this year and at least equal Webcke (254) if the Broncos make the grand final. The Test forward is contracted for two more years.

Asked if he would have thought himself capable of a 250-game career, Thaiday said: “No, I was done after the first day of pre-season. I wanted to go home.

“I came to the club as a fat 17-year-old, I’m a fat 31 year-old 250 games later.

“It’s fantastic to celebrate 250 games and hopefully make it sweeter with a victory.’’

Webcke said Thaiday had struggled with training expectations in his first months after he moved from Townsville in November 2002.

“I wouldn’t have thought he’d be a 250-game player either,’’ Webcke said.

“He has developed into a dynamic, tough backrower but what I love most is the humility he’s retained about himself and how outgoing he is.

“He’s had his ups and downs in his career but he’s become a great representative for our club and I rate that as highly as what he’s done on the football field.’’

Thaiday said first-placed Melbourne, who posted a 48-6 thrashing of Brisbane on July 1, were the “benchmark’’.

“We got one back on the Bulldogs … our focus now is the Storm and trying to get one back on them,’’ he said.

“It’s always a tough task in Melbourne. They are trying to pick up a bit of form coming into the semis and even pushing for a minor premiership.

“Cameron (Smith) and Cooper (Cronk) are two of the best players of our competition. You want to play the best and you want to beat the best.’’
