He has used the same tactic. I don't think he was the first that started doing it but he has been one of the players that have done it.
Not exactly like what Milford did, but a couple of times if there was a player laying in the ruck he would start to pick up the ball to pass it and purposely hit the other player laying in the ruck to milk a penalty, sometimes it backfired on him.
There have also been times where he would purposely pass it into a player trying to run back onside, same with Cronk.
I am a little surprised they didn't try to pass the ball into the ref whenever they were in our half and weren't going anywhere with their set.
If you have the territorial advantage and you pass the ball into the ref or kick the ball into the ref, you get the scrum feed and another set of six.
Reynolds did it against Manly in the finals in 2014. That's how they were able to get in position to nail the field goal.

So basically the difference between coming 4th and 5th is playing the Cowboys in Townsville or Brisbane in week 2.

I think we can beat the Cowboys in Townsville.
We had them on the ropes in Round 11.
But then the injuries started happening and that's when they started their comeback.
A couple of silly mistakes from us in some crucial stages (Roberts passing off the ground) and we weren't able to deliver the knockout blow.
Despite having all of the momentum in that period of their comeback where they were going from one side of the field to the other and completely rolling over the top of us, they only managed to win by 1 and that was because Milford fucked up an easy field goal to level it up.
I don't think Cowboys are a level above us and even if they are, we have shown we can rise to that level against them like in Round 4.
If we can beat Melbourne in Melbourne so convincingly, we can beat the Cowboys in Townsville.
My only concern of finishing 5th, is if Cowboys win their first game...

That's how they made it to the GF.
Cowboys can beat them there. They tend to perform quite well at AAMI Park.

I don't think Smith even believes this crap about the 'spirit of the game', he is deflecting attention away from his side that just got pumped and attempting to get the refs on side(which I don't think will work anyway).

Oh I know they can, I just don't believe they will, not this year. Cows are a different team this season, the hunger's not there.

There are some storm fans who are still arguing that this isn't a fair comparison, despite it being the same penalty for the same infringement. It's all good when they are stretching a vague interpretation of the rules to suit themselves, but as soon as someone does it to them they have a cry about it. It's pathetic.
