Round 26 - Broncos vs Sea Eagles - Post Match Discussion

So who actually went down on the field after the game?

Unfortunately it's looking like a pretty costly win. Although Beale was solid at fullback losing Hoffman is a massive blow. He creates so much at the back and his hard running often puts us in a good position to start our sets. Still we covered well earlier this season without him so we're just going to have to revert back to those good habbits.

The Thiaday tackle wasn't the worst this year but I still reckon he'll get a low grading. Think the last time he was at the judiciary was 2007. My guess is he'll get a week for it.

It was great to get the win for Lockyer's farewell although apart from that I don't think there's much to take from the match. We were so sluggish in attack. Our pet play of turning the ball back in to the forwards to hit it up the middle isn't as effective against the top teams. We saw it in Melbourne and today - the good teams don't have those holes that we go looking for.

Oh and I can't stand Manly but based on that performance I think the Cowboys are finished. Unless they pull out one of the greatest performances in their short history I don't see how they can get past Manly. As a depleted unit they were great today and I don't think Hasler will lose any sleep in dropping today's game.

Did Mitchell Dodds even play?

According to NRL.com, he didn't get on the field!

McGuire played 80 minutes, Hannant 44 and Anderson 36. Thaiday, Corey and Glenn all played 80 too.

Was it just my imagination or was Dodds wearing a neck brace like Tate's in the warmup?

What a tragedy for Hoffman. Thaiday could probably use a rest anyway.

Yeah, so sad for Hoffman .. .considering his bad run with injury early in the year.

Let's hope it's not as bad as some think and he'll be able to still play a part for us in the finals.

Should only be a 1 week rest anyway. He has no carry over points or loading (no Judiciary visits since 2007), so unless they decide it's a grade 3 dangerous throw (And on precedent this year it's hard to see how they could) he'll only get 1 week for a grade 2, or be free to play with an early plea if grade 1 (unlikely).

if thaiday gets any more than a week it just further perpetuates the joke that is the nrl judiciary system.

so yeah i wouldnt be all that surprised.

Dodds was certainly wearing the neck protection in the warm up.

Teo REALLY needs to work on getting his confidence back in defence. he was almost steve michaels like out there yesterday.

losing hoffman is a huge blow, he was playing excellently. one thing i thought id never say - both McCullough and Wallace have really been impressing me the last few weeks. its like they suddenly realised that Lockyer is leaving, and that the team is going to depend on them. theyve both finally found some attacking skills!

i saw very little wrong with thaidays tackle. it was a beauty, didnt even come close to landing on his head.

Big wraps for McGuire, McCullough and Wallace of late. Playing the house down and turning into absolute guns. We have really good balance in our side particularly when Hodges is fit.

I agree, nothing wrong with the tackle....in 1972. It's above the horizontal though and that's against the rules. Still, a good tackle though I agree. But in today's world, it ain't.

You're right Rock but I have to wonder when they will look at those types of tackles and weigh up how much the tackled player contributed by twisting and trying to find the ground.
In todays paper there was a great photo of it catching Kites first movement towards the ground and you can clearly see how he puts himself in the dangerous position.
Also Luke O' Donnells tackle on Boyd in last years origin was graded a 2 so if Sams is graded the same it's a joke.

oh yeah, no doubt its illegal by the rules - 100% agreement on that.

but i think a penalty was enough. he barely went past the horizontal, landed on his back, and could really only have been hurt from being winded/sore the way you would in any good legal tackle. it most certainly doesnt deserve to miss any more than 1 game at the very very most.

Thaidays a bronco though, so he'll get 6 weeks.

I wrote to the NRL and pointed out the inconsistency of guys running 40 metres to punch on getting a week while a guy who makes an accidental dangerous tackle gets 2. I'm hoping for an intelligent answer :)

You'll get a form letter about how the NRL is very careful about its association with betting agencies...

Coxy, If you're going to have a second account try not to make it obvious.

No need for capital I. Please try harder. ;-)
