I think you are both right and not right.

I truly don’t believe May is coming in with any intent to hurt Walsh.

But I think the important part that makes this an illegal tackle, is that he doesn’t bend his back to make a tackle.

The duty of care sounds like a cop out, but in reality, he is the one making the decision to come flying out of the line, if he wants to make a big tackle, he should be putting his body on the line to do so, not putting Walsh’s body on the line to do so.

He never makes any attempt to actually make a tackle, he just looks to body check him.

If he bends his back and spears Walsh through the guts, it would be a highlight reel tackle that even we could appreciate.
It seems like the only thing you disagree with is intent. Fine. He's a dumbass to think that rushing in like that isn't going to end up hurting someone. Even the speed of him getting there was reckless because he didn't try to shut the play down, he just charged at Walsh and it wasn't any way to make a safe tackle.

Not only was the hit on Walsh reckless and careless it was designed to put a 'hit' on him, and he never even got binned!
I'm not sure the riff dog intended it to have such a great outcome for his team but I'd be willing to bet he was congratulated by all and sundry in the riff sheds after the game.

The biggest let down for me though was not the scoreline, it was the fact I got denied to see the best player in the league run around for 80 minutes doing his 'thing'. Reece is without a doubt the biggest draw card in our game at present and to be denied his presence on the field for the whole night felt like I had been mugged - my wallet and phone were robbed but I was left with my bus-pass to get me home.

As many have said - if that was Cleary getting taken out by a Bronco there would be mass hysteria in Sydney. The sheer narrow mindedness of our southern cousins as to the damage this sort of shit does to the game as a whole is quite staggering. To have the mindset that 'it's only a Bronco player' is cutting your nose off to spite your face.

TV viewers who tuned in from all over the country to watch our beautiful game were denied one of the major highlights of the night and two fifths of **** all was said and done about the whole incident. I've never seen Kevvie so full of rage and disappointment at a presser.

It was fairly obvious he was fuming with the incident, but true to type he managed to remain tight lipped about it all.

Why our forwards never went in and smashed the living **** out of this cheap dog shot merchant is beyond me. Stuff the MRC. Our so called 'enforcers' need to make it known to all clubs that if you dog shot one of our players you will pay the consequences. Someone has to make a stand for our team or this shit will continue.

Arthurs brushing off golden boots Cleary to score for us did bring a smile to my sour old coupon though.

Interesting what Walters said in the press conference. When talking about shifting players for the fullback role, he said they had sailor as 18th man so couldn't use him and "they won't be doing that again"... does he mean he will bring a back into the 17, specifically sailor? Exciting if he is but I hope it's well thought out. Unfortunately we do not have an 80 minute hooker in our squad, and won't for some time. This means if he does go down this path we'd be asking a lot of 2 bench forwards. He has actually done this a couple times last year with mariner the Bench back. The bench would likely be heyhrington, smoothy, willison (or baker swap, didnt play well but limited options and far better off the bench) and sailor. I'd be tempted to put hethrington starting with willison coming on after 20 mins and staying on until 20 mins until the finish. Carrigan can be the 13 but play the prop ish role for the 1st 20 mins. Baker can play 25 mins when jensen comes off. Carrigan will have to play 70-80 mins until haas comes back Unfortunately. 70 if hethrington comes back 30 before the end and carrigan gets a 10 min spell 50 mins into the game.

Yeah it seems that he either meant Sailor specifically or a back on the bench. Either way, I like that he is learning from his mistakes.

Letting Capewell walk for sweet FA is still a head scratcher for me.
I know he’s past he’s prime but Jeeze an experienced second rower would come in handy right about now.

The head scratcher for me (not really, because I know BHQ and Broncos fans in general) is any people screaming at the top of their lungs about how shit Capes was and how we should get rid of him ... Only to complain when we do just that.

FTR, the club wanted to keep him for this year, but was not prepared to offer him a new contract beyond that. We did what we normally do and didn't stand in his way when he was able to secure his future with a long term contract

I wonder if the Shitney media will come out today about duty of care, etc. now that Reece has picked up a facial fracture from it and penrith were gifted an easy win off the back of it??

I daresay they'll argue the opposite and it was an accident blah blah blah... until it happens to a pet Sydney player then they will be calling for season long bans.

And it has left us royally fucked

Capes was bad defensively in the back end of last season, that is backed up by stats as well.
It was inevitable that Piakura would take the starting spot, but Capewell off the bench covering middle, edge and backs would be invaluable.

The club failed to recruit a suitable replacement... and basically failed to recruit literally any one that could act as a 3rd second rower for the club... we have literally got 2 second rowers and decided to release one and not recruit anyone else

But to the Warriors and I think that needs to be taken into account. We got Walsh back from them as a clear favour and they were great about it. If we were going to do one club a solid, it was the Warriors.

There are backrowers around too, you just have to find the right one and I guess that is what the Broncs are waiting on. Even so, I like the look of Patston, gives me Gillett vibes.

Capes doesn't change the result last night. He may not have even changed the margin.

Hetherington was a hooker until we turned him into a lock. I’m sure he can fill in for 20 mins just doing what Smoothy does which is pass straight to the halves

Facial fracture for Walsh
no surprises there. zero chance you get smashed in the face like that, swelling and all, for only bruising.

will be a tough month for us.

Yip. They'll say it was an accident. An exact same 'accident' that occurred during their Parra game last week. Oh and the MRC has decided 'nothing to see here' and May is free to play next week while Reece is looking at 4-6 weeks out.

One lost battle does not mean the war is also lost. Need to be pretty much perfect on the field to match Penrith for 80 minutes, unfortunately we were stuffed after the first 10 or so...

I'd draw a line through this, and move on...NRL is like this.

Also, it's round 3...

I recall Rd 1 last year to Rd 26 - how much imporvement did we witness in our young players through the year?

Does anyone imagine Willison and Mariner are going to regress between now and week 1 of the finals?

We will turn this around im sure. Theres opportunity aplenty right now for these young guys to really leave a mark and, with luck, genuine selection headaches for the coaching staff as the season progresses.

DONT PANIC.

Hopefully the rest of the comp sleeps on us now, or thinks we are suffering a GF hangover or whatever...

No attempt to tackle at all..

Riff have some sort of superior bone density improvement programs, their physiques around where bones are pronounced are noticeably different than pretty much every other team. I don't think teams should be targeting their players for signings, they should be after their strength and conditioning staff.
