That's one point I liked about last night. The Broncos didn't receive a free hand-out of their own end, they had to earn it and it was Walsh who came up with the play.
Yeah I thought it was a good sign that they stuck to their task despite all the pressure and lack of field position.

It would be the worst part of the game for a winger, but they kept doing it and didn't look for an easy way out by trying to pass their way out of it... stuck to the gameplan and kept the completion rate high, which led to the halftime shut out.

The truth is we don't have a viable backup, and of the options who could take his place, they'd likely introduce more problems than they'd solve.

From what I've seen of Latrell, he doesn't look like an upgrade on Sailor. Yet. And we all still have nightmares about him.

There's something off with Reece's ball handling under pressure. In the short term, he might need to tuck it and take the tackle more often. Not what we want in the longer term, but a nobbled Reece would still rank amongst the better fullbacks, and be the best on our roster.
Its a catch 22 for Reece.
For the past few seasons he has been told to slow his game down, make better decisions and consider his options instead of playing the fast paced reckless style that makes him the threat he is.

He looks in two minds on most plays and when you second guess yourself, you make errors.

In time, he will find balance, and when he does, he is going to crack sides open all night and be about as dangerous as an attacking player can be.

We just have to be patient with him till he gets there.

So what, you want to get rid of Walsh?

HE IS 22 YEARS OLD!

Nah not get rid of him .
But call a spade a spade . 4 years in NRL and in his 1st year he was making the same mistakes . I expect more growth and improvement for a million dollars .

They feed off each other. Hence they both had poor years last year. But when they are on they are on.

We just have to give the new combos time. Personally I think Walsh hasn't found his new thing yet. He was great running outside shape, but once the Panthers showed crunching in on him last year broke his game down, everyone started doing it.

He copped a head to the face and a knockout with this tactic. This has effected him and makes him second think his motion into contact. It doesn't surprise me as I bet a lovely nurse or Dr told him he was lucky he wasn't killed after Origin. It's a tough thing to find out your mortal as a young bloke with children, playing a high speed contact game. One inch and he could have been like Ackerman.

Like I said I think he just hasn't found the thing that will break games open for him. I think like others are saying he needs to be sniffing around Hass and Patrick for offloads. He should have been there for Shibs.

He is still adding enough quality to know he is trying and that's good enough for me right now.
I agree with Gus, he’s like a batsman short of runs trying to slog everything out of sight. He’ll come good, he needs patience and so do we.

2 different coaches, a ton of different players around him, a year with three serious concussions, more media pressure than any three other players in the game combined, a ton of expectations vs reality, a huge paycheck to live up to.

I agree he is not yet a million dollar player, but we have to take all the factors into account here.
Im not worried about Reece, i think in time he will prove his value.

I just cant think of another player who has been under such scrutiny at such a young age.

I am also certain that he is being asked to play significantly differently under the new coach vs the old coach.

I remember back playing juniors, there was always that kid who threw the ball away every time he was about to be tackled or was already being tackled, like a reflex panic action. That's what Reece looks like to me and all the talk that he plays high risk, you have to expect it, is missing the point in my opinion.

Stopping Reece from throwing the ball in a panic will not take away from his attacking prowess. Whether anyone can figure out how to stop him from panicking is the 5 million dollar question.

Even out of form, Walsh’s threat out wide is creating opportunities for tries like Arey’s last night. We didn’t see it in the raiders game because they had finals level line speed (they were offside constantly on their line but the ref let it go after a few infringements)

I don’t get why Walsh is under the blow torch in the media but not the million dollar, marquee, origin half Dearden who looks like he’s physically incapable of setting up a try. Bloke reminds me of Josh Hoffman rn

Because no one gives a **** about the cowboys

Because no one cares about the cows so Dearden criticism doesn't generate any clicks.

Whereas the Sydney circle jerk will click on anything anti-Broncos and especially anything anti-Reece

Reece deserves criticism atm tho. He has been fucking hopeless
