Round 3 Discussion

I dont see how it would benefit them though. You can only use the 18th man if more than one player fails a HIA.

They've been faking HIA's to get free interchanges for a couple of years now. Why would they think that two HIA's is off limits? They'll (or any other team willing to rort it) will carry 4 forwards on the bench and have a utility or spare back as 19th man. A stacked pack means they have less fatigue and if they find they do need an extra back or fresh utility, they can fake an extra HIA (I say extra because odds-on they've done one already) to bring that 19th player in.

But does it only come in to effect when the two HIAs are failed and those players can't re-enter the field? it means teams would be foregoing the services of two starters to bring in a third player. Sounds a bit dumb, but yeh I'm sure the Storm will find some way to make it work.

They could fake it, but are they really going to fake it if say Jesse Bromwich or Cam Munster get HIA injuries? The 18th man would only be used when that second player fails a HIA. I dont think what they are proposing with this 18th man is just for a HIA check, its for teams like the Sharks last night who lost 3 players who failed their tests.

No, but the HIA's they utilise now are bogus anyway, they'd choose who gets to come off.

@Jedhead, my guess is they'd be replacing benchies anyway after their stints, their games are over anyway.

The NRL could of course impose the rule that anyone ruled out by HIA misses their next game, which would give the rort a higher price. But i could certainly see it being used in a tight / important match, especially if the player they burn is 16th or 17th man and there is enough depth in their squad to cover for a week.

They do. I think a few clubs take advantage of it.

There’s no perfect answer. I know it’s easier said than done but imagine the pressure to hide or downplay head injuries if you and your club knows you’ll be automatically ruled out the following week

An absolute horrendous decision by a touch judge... checks who it is... of course it would be her

@Mr Fourex ‘s favourite touchy strikes again.

Missed most of the first half - Tigers good or Newy bad?

There is no perfect answer. All I'm saying is, in my opinion, don't add the 18th man. It's not necessary and is too easily rorted.

**** that was hilarious (and well done) by Shiba then :rofl
