That was one way to ruin a Saturday night.
Disappointing effort, the Broncos were loose all game and the Panthers took advantage with their power game. Credit where it's due, I thought they were strong tonight Penrith. Peachey and Cartwright were a real handful and they slayed the Broncos down both edges.
I don't particularly understand Bennett's decision to keep Nikorima out on the field as long as he did. I'm a fan of the guy but it was evident the Panthers were targetting him (like they did Garvey) and more often than not the Broncos were caught short in defence. I guess it's all about the learning experience, giving Kodi a chance to step up but unfortunately on this evening it didn't pan out.
On the positive side, I thought McGuire was outstanding tonight. The way he was able to get himself involved was remarkable and one of the most disappointing aspects of the loss is that his performance will be glossed over. That play with 5 to go where Hunt raced out to prevent the field goal and McGuire was there in support actually made me really happy. It's why the loose pass from Kodi really hurt.
I think it's a case of the Broncos being off, the Panthers being a team we typically struggle against, a couple of lucky bounces and that's all she wrote.
Absolutely agree re Nikorima. We need to decide what kind of player we want him to be. Is he an impact player or back up dummy half? If he is an impact player he either needs less minutes to be fresh or have him defending on the wing or something so he's not doing as much in defence. His tiredness at the end of the game from dummy half was a big contributor to our loss in my opinion.
