Round 3 - Titans vs Broncos - Post Match Discussion

You really can't count Wallace's pass for Hodges' try an assist, that was ALL Hodges.

Aside from the pass to Glenn (which was well done, but I thought it was Hunt's dart that gave us space) I can't remember any other good passes.

Good defence, but ball in hand it was a typical Wallace game sans the silly pressure passes.

He ran well at the line, got a few good passes away, including the beauty for Glenn's try and the easier assist for Hodgo's game breaker. Really can't fault the bloke!

I am unclear what kind of assist Wallace gets for the Hodges try??? Please explain.

As far as I am concerned Wallace doesn't play deep enough and gets tackled far too often for a halfback. his kicking game is hopeless, needs o find grass more often IMO. He needs to stand deeper IMO.

I'm not crediting Wallace with anything but the pass to Hodges, which as I said was easy. The fact he fed the ball through the scrum and then passed it, which makes it technically an assist, despite the fact that Hodges did pretty much all the work. But I get what you mean, and no, Wallace deserves no extra credit for the try!

Wallace ran well at the line, got a few good passes away, especially to Gillett, that in turn took his effort too far.
I will repeat, given what he got to work with, he did quite well. What more did you expect in last night's context?

See previous msg re the assist.

I generally agree with you otherwise, but don't think he did much wrong last night though. The WHOLE team needs to stand a bit deeper and run better lines, which is the primary reason why Wallace gets tackled too often.

Let me be clear, in no way do I imply that Wallace played a vintage HB game, but I don't think he could've done much better yesterday. [icon_shru

Yeah he has to work with himself and that must be shit. He is first receiver FFS the team has to work with his rubbish. His job is to guide the side around not just tackle and kick it to the fullback on the full FFS. He deserves no credit he successfully did the job of a second rower last night that is all.

I have an update on my father, his doing much better today, his short term memory has holes in it still (as to be expected in situations like this) but not at the level as it was last night which is probably a blessing in disguise for him after the Broncos beat his beloved Titans. My mother was lucky enough to get a flight booking from Hobart to the Gold Coast and will be here tonight.

Good to hear mate hope the recovery is speedy and he can get back to his best ASAP. icon_thumbs_u

Great news mate! Hope he'll fully recover and this becomes nothing more than a scare without consequences!

Great to hear he's doing much better GC, all the best on a speedy recovery and to your family.

Porth - I wouldn't even bother bringing the scrum pass up.

Also, I'd expect him to nail that field goal, to kick 10m further, and not to drop a regulation Lockyer pass.

Wallace has never been a long kicker, but he still managed 46 mtrs on average last night, which was more than Locky. He also did less tackles than Lockyer, but twice as much with the ball in hand for the same amount of receives. Does that make Locky a noob?
All of that in a team that was on the back foot for pretty much the whole game. A bit of perspective wouldn't hurt FFS.
Yes, he missed a sitter with the field goal and didn't dominate as Thurston or Cronk might, but fark me, he's never good enough for some people... [icon_non

he wasn't woeful but he wasn't outstanding either. Solid game nothing more IMO.

I'm not saying Wallace was woeful, just saying I'm surprised by the praise, it was your basic Wallace performance.

That's fantastic news mate. Glad to hear he's doing better.

I have said it before but Wallace seems to have trouble forming combinations with anyone, because of his pass to Gillett last game he went there again for the exact same play this week. This makes me think his communication needs improvement, dont they practise a couple of set plays during the week? I put half the blame of this on the players outside of him, but if he can add a couple of plays to his arsenal down that left side, he will improve dramatically. He seemed pumped up in this game, hopefully means hes gaining confidence at last.

He will come good, he is still playing well below his potential the same way Boyd did for ages, that frustrated people back in the day too but look how that turned out. [icon_pray.

I have a mega crush on Hook. He's the handsomest coach the Broncos have ever had.

Wallace MOTM materials? Seriously? Go and watch the other halfbacks running around in the comp and look at Wallace and what he does. Someone mentioned he's a good backrower. They were absolutely spot on. Lockyer was way better, apart from that one penalty not finding touch, he didn't put a foot wrong! Impressed with Beale, Hodges & Hoffo of course too.
Hunt needs to put his dummy away. OMG, when he just picks it upa nd passes or runs he gets us great metres.

Can someone tell me if Ben Teo has been playing?

Also, we are lucky the titans are worse than us in attack. Scott prince & Presto are in career worst form. Really missing Nathan Friend!

and a big hearty chuckle at "NSW's Wally Lewis" Greg Bird....our very own King gave him a spray on friday night for his woeful defence [icon_evillaugh

See I think the thing with Wallace is he's been so bad for the last year that when he even plays slightly decent, he gets raps, because it's head and shoulders above what he was producing last season.

I saw glimpses of good stuff from him. He took the line on more and in better positions. His kicking game is still pretty tragic.

I don't remember Wallace ever playing THAT poorly, he was never really a liability he just wasn't doing a good job and I can only remember 3 worthwhile performances (Cowboys, Souths and Raiders).

Also long, he did decide to throw that inside ball that put Yow Yeh under all sorts which gave the Titans that opportunity down our right fringe. You'd expect a little better from him.
