If you watched, you’d also know those stats do tell the story of his night - he was good.
So by that logic, if a player picks up a loose ball and runs 90M and has another 60M run from a pass, that tells what story?!
Makes 30 tackles?
Same bloke also runs like he is scared to get hit and is as affective as a wet fart…
Still tells a story?

He was shit. However, JetSki was even worse. Don’t know, hard to tell… I do know that our back row is easily the weakest 2 positions in our team.

Just had the mini on Fox and one thing I noticed with Staggs defence tonight was that he didn't come flying out of the line... or not that I could recall him doing.

I'm sure he will still do it at some point, but his approach tonight was all about checking off and sliding... he was fine with letting his man get outside him knowing he has the speed to catch up to them.

Thought he had a great night defensively and in yardage... his first game of the year as well... these other guys have been playing for a month + trials, and he's come out with 128m, a try and 23 tackles... did have 5 missed, but I'll put that down to the weather.

Great first up game for Tones

I’m one to criticise players on here but Riki’s stats tonight were impressive. He isn’t as bad as you’re making him seem. Comparing him to Baker is crazy.
Oh goodness, no!!!!
Not a chance. Riki has been shit (compared to Riki23) but IS NOT, WILL NOT ever be as bad as Baker.
Apologies if I caused any confusion. I said he can join Baker, not compared him to Baker 🤣

something interesting that I noticed tonight is that when we received a scrum in out attacking half, Arthars feed the scrum instead of Reyno. Reynold was set up in the backline
Noticed that as well, we had carrigan in the backline for one towards the final 5-10min too!

And those 30 tackles don't tell the story either, he's not flopping 3rd man in getting those numbers up.
He's doing a lot of clean up work, leading the kick chase and protecting his half back.

What are you expecting him to be doing out there? Kicking 40/20s? Ball playing? Throwing cut out balls to the winger?
He's a second rower and one who's not on massive money.
Were Payne and Patty shit because they had pretty much the same stats as RIki tonight playing in the middle.

Man, The NRL hate us so much we only got 1 point for tonight. 😢

Seeing alot of dumb takes. When the weather is that bad the game borderline can become a coin flip. Of course it wasn't pretty.

So yes, we could absolutely beat storm with that performance in that sort of weather. Especially since we completed at 90%. No one can play their natural game when the rain is that heavy.

Almost creamed myself at the sight of our completion rate.

I've been crying out for that for three or four years now! It was excellent to see us play some high percentage footy, and not the usual low intelligence stuff we've become accustomed too.

Let's hope we continue to build on it. Still plenty of room for improvement.

Well sure if by that logic actually happened…but it didn’t…so back to the original point, are you sure you watched the game? Because running 150m and making the amount of tackles he did effectively in the wet does tell a pretty accurate story and I know, I watched it.

The boys played sensible wet weather footy and managed to complete at 90% which is an obvious team effort and should be recognised as such.

Was really pleased to see Shiba score a double and repay Madge for showing faith in him.

Cobbo stayed off the sideline (🤫) and Paixy ran (FFS!) for a brilliant hooker’s try.

Paddy and Piakura provided two highlight hits to show our pack can sting when it wants.

Walshy played well within himself in a great team effort and his hands for Shiba’s second were silky.

Herbie was a constant threat in a well beaten team and I felt a wee bit sorry for him as all he got was a thumping from Piakura for his efforts. I’m sure when his head hit the pillow last night he had pangs of remorse for leaving.

If we’d managed to stop that last try of theirs we’d be sitting atop the table so not a bad start to the season.

Hope Piakura starts next week and smashes that Luai gobshite.

Hard to tell when the whistle was only going one way.

If we're playing the penrith that turned up last night then absolutely we beat them.

We completed as high as we could in the wet, had zero ball and Reynolds kicked them to death.

It was about as perfect as you can get with the hand that was dealt.

You're basically on your own to try and get any field position when you don't get any penalties or 6 agains... if penrith, melbourne or any team are dealt that hand I'm not sure they win.

I don't disagree, I thought it was a good win especially considering the conditions and the one-sided refereeing, but I also thought that (like our win against the Roosters) the opposition being really poor contributed to us looking good.

No team (especially this early in the year) is the finished product and perfect, the negatives I pointed out aren't trying to be critical for the sake of it, just identifying areas for improvement that are going to be really important by the time we're playing finals footy against a powerhouse team.

Shiba making a break out of nothing and having nobody in support may be the difference between winning and losing in a finals game. Being unable to maintain field position in a low-scoring grindfest against Melb because every single time we force a goal-line dropout they go short and recover it because they know we're terrible in that area could be the difference between a grand final spot or a trip to Bali.

Its been a weird start to the season, outside of Round 1 so far this year it feels very much like the boys are playing pretty conservative and well within their ability with and without the ball.

Madge seems to just be focusing on the boys making tackles and holding the ball, it's sort of hard to really get a grasp on how well we are actually going.

Interesting shout out to Barret. Apparently Shibs 2nd try was a set play, specifically for the Dolphins. Nice to hear stuff like that.

Barrett has always had huge wraps on him in terms of being an assistant, just for whatever reason he hasn't been able to convert it into being a head coach.
