Round 4 - Broncos vs Panthers - Post Match Discussion

Someone already said it before: Griffin's teams usually start slow.

It's not pretty, but I'm loving the defense, which despite having played one more game than most teams, is the best of the NRL. 4 games without a try against us in the 2nd half is a pretty amazing stat!
Remember what the Dragons looked like at the start of 2009?

We have plenty of talent and once the passes start to stick and we start to give ourselves some room by standing deeper in attack, we will put teams to the sword!

Good go forward from Thaiday, Hannant and Parker. Solid performances from Glenn and McGuire, and visible improvement from Gillett and Te'o (nice offload for Beale's try). Macca, Hunt and Tronc were again disappointing.

Locky was quite good overal, set up that try to Yow Yeh beautifully, but missed a couple of passes and dropped that sitter. While not where we want him, Wallace is improving slowly, kicked better, including the assist for Glenn’s try.

Of the back 5, Hodgo showed his class, but still lacks match rhythm, Yow Yeh was very good and almost scored a double. Reed deserved that try, if only that left hand was up a bit longer. Copley isn’t the solution for the wing, either bring back Gagai or take a punt on Kemp. Beale was solid, did nothing wrong, but just offers very little in attack, despite scoring that try. Here's hoping Hoffman is back next game!

Just watching the Manly vs Souths game and looking at young Will Hopoate do well.
This is what the Broncos should be doing with Gagai.
Let Gagai attack in the centres and let Reed defend in the centres.
Last year Gagai had it all over Hopoate resulting him being the Dally M fullback of the year and the Junior Kangroos number 1.
Against the Junior Kiwis in the two tests, he was the best player out of both teams.
Confidence is a wonderful thing.

I thought McCullough played pretty well. Instead of passing it off the ground, he ran the ball a bit before passing, which seemed to be much more effective. It definitely helped the forwards IMO.

Awesome effort in defence too, 36 tackles, 0 missed.

Our attack was much deeper in the second half and hence it created more opportunities. Good to see lucky running it again.

In the opening 10 minutes I was actually impressed aspects of our attack - decoy runners and interesting ruck plays.
Those who sang the praises of Locky last night obviously didn't watch the first 20 minutes ish - he was terrible.
Nothing seemed to be going right for him.
The winger, Yeah Yeah really impresses me.

It was a really disgraceful attacking display last night. Individual brilliance is getting us over the line at the moment. Our defense was once again brilliant but we still need to work on defending kicks. Our attack will eventually click and when that happens we will destroy teams IMO. At this stage of the season the 2 points and no injuries is the most important thing.

Reed will be around for along time and full strength he should continue to be our centre.

We only have 1 wing spot to sort out IMO and finding somewhere for Anderson.

I didn't think Reed did a lot wrong to be honest. There were times Beale passed to him in the 2nd man play with the winger sweating on him - meanwhile Copely unmarked outside [eusa_doh

I'm not going to knock Beale much, he was solid, but you could see our attack really lacked something without Hoffman there.

and yeah, Copely's shit.

Beale did look lost in our pet play, sliding across field too much IMO. He wouldn't have trained much at fullback during the preseason

Noticed that myself. Beale never took the right option on the second man play. Always held onto it too long, or passed to a player under pressure.

Not surprising though, it took Hoffman a while to get it right.

Hoffman still doesn't get it 100% right...but then he's following KHunt who was so good at it I think we took it for granted.

Yeah but Hunt had no ball playing skills and was the most over-rated Broncos player ever.

I dunno. Everyone is bagging our shitty attack, but we showed some good signs of what's to come. Throwing the ball around, quickly.

Lockyer looks like he's ready to make an impact, and I think we played better with Hunt on the field.

Don't know what Reed has done wrong, he's young, and solid. Copley needs to learn to jump if he wants to be our winger.

You can tell he's just not a winger. Stood way too flat all night. The times he was unmarked I'm sure Reed wanted to get it to him but he wouldve most likely been pulled up for a forward pass had he hit him on the chest. Needs to follow about 3 metros behind. Yow Yeh was guilty a few times as well, but overall Yow Yeh was pretty solid I thought. Geez he can pick when to come in off his wing to make a tackle.
