Round 4 - Broncos vs. Storm - Post Match Discussion

I felt that last night was the first time Thaiday played with a bit of fire in the belly since probably 2011. My favourite run of his was off a line drop-out, where he just arced up and cannoned into the defence off a 25 metre run.

Bro, you come up with the worst nicknames.

Womantra is obviously what maranta is called around the club, I mean big Dave is in the know after all.

Andrew gee: "hey Dave!!! What's cracking bro. So we have offered Dugan 1 million a year and it looks like his gonna take it"

Big Dave: "oh ok, I hate Dugan but thanks for telling me this highly private and confidential information"

Andrew gee: "no worries champ, so we are gonna tell the media that he is accepting a 50% pay cut, so keep this on the down low yeah"

Big Dave: "no worries mate, you can trust me, I definitely won't post this on any public forums."

Andrew gee: "thanks mate. Oh by the way we call maranta 'womantra' get it, like his a woman. Yeah it's pretty funny. Anyway ill let you go, see you in a couple of days so I can tell you some more confidential info. Peace out G"

Completely agree. Playing with a little mongrel never hurt anyone.

Haha I was wondering if I was the only one that noticed what a truly bad sport that guy was/is

I made a facebook status about it. Along the lines of "Blah blah, we played crap, blah blah. STFU Cronk you gronk".

What did he say?

Can't remember it word for word but it was something like...

'I thought we were terrible tonight. There were a number of issues and I don't expect Craig will be happy when we get back to the sheds. Yeah, just a really disappointing performance from us'

Never liked Cronk or any of the Melbourne Players TBH.

Cronk has always received a free pass from me, especially since he told Quinn to STFU while on the field. Anybody who puts that maggot into place earns my respect.

But yeah, was a pretty disrespectful thing to say. Cam and Billy at least gave credit where it was due.

He said their attack was good but their defence wasn't good enough, especially after the break, and that Bellamy will probably get into them about it... But yeah, the whole message was very dismissive of the opposition. Smith and Slater on the other hand, showed recognition to the Broncos and how well they played, and even Bellyache recognised that if it wasn't for a couple of those Slater freakish moments, they probably would've lost the game.

Well one of those freakish moments was when Thaiday was

held back & Slater just had to run to the try line.

Pretty much that, and said there defense was terrible, essentially insinuating our tries weren't from got attacking structure just s*** defence.

Essentially most people with half a brain and any amount of basic sportsmanship give credit to the other side, but the exalted one.

I can't stand Cronk to be honest and never have. As BP said at least smith and slater can acknowledge the opposition. I'm sick of the circle jerk that goes on for Cronk like he is some legend of the game (I'm talking in terms of being an ambassador etc. I'm not questioning his ability). Yet he is just a disrespectful turd. I lost count of the times where we would annihilate a team and locky would say the obligatory stuff like "they pushed us hard" etc etc. if it is good enough for locky it's good enough for cooper Gronk

It was also clever coaching, that's a really old move and I mean old. I remember old blokes teaching it to us when I first came into grade 30 years ago.
Teams have been packing the fullback into lock in scrums to create an extra defender and the fullback breaks from the scrum and heads straight backwards like Norman did last night.
The problem is that leaves the prop to break and defend that move, Bellamy was all over it and thought it worth a shot and it worked a treat.
I still don't know how the Vid Ref missed it but Storm rolled the dice and won.

I'm not sure whether you're doing it or not, but I really dislike people giving them credit for this. It's yet another cheating trick from the Bellyache factory... :glare:

the holding back of Thaiday makes it an illegal play ... when teams pull it off without holding the defender back is what makes it a brilliant play

Well I think I am giving him credit, you take what you can get, the vid ref should have picked it up for sure. It annoys the shit out of me that they didn't.

Fletcher and Belcher have both said it was a try because of woeful defending by Norman. They highlighted the play as Norman did not look after breaking from the scrum, he just ran back towards his own goal line. What they said was that Billy should have been taken by the lock and not the prop. Norman was the lock

I agree. Everytime a team gets a penalty awarded against them, aren't they also attempting to cheat, so how many teams can you say each week play 100% legally?

I think the thing that annoys people about the storm is they do it in such a way that they get away with it. Who's fault is that though? Ultimately if a team makes an illegal play, it's the responsibilty of the ref's to pick it up. Maybe the storm just push the boundaries of the rules more than anyone else. Is it in the spirit of the game? Probably not. Is it clever coaching. Probably. Does it win games. Yes. Do too many people here complain when illegal plays are missed by the refs when it's in the favour of the Broncos/QLD/AUS. No.
