POST GAME Round 4 - Broncos vs Titans

This place is a rollercoaster.

We win a game = sign everyone to 20 year deals.
We lose a game = sack everyone including the players, coach, management, and fake our own deaths due to the embarrassment associated with being a Broncos fan.

Last night was pretty bad though. The tigers game had all the warning signs that our attack sucks but we arsed a win and it covered up the crap.

That's probably less of a blight on the fans and more of a blight on the players honestly. The only reason it feels like such a rollercoaster is because our team is a rollercoaster. Some weeks we look like world beaters and other weeks we look like a Ricky Stuart coached team.

This place would be FAR less chaotic if we just put in the same amount of effort every week, even if we lost half of our games, all most of us want is consistent footy.
A good example of this is Melbourne. Even when they get beat, they never look absolute shit while doing it, and you can just tell the players are absolutely furious about losing. I watched them lose Billy's 300th and you could easily tell they were beyond pissed that they lost that game. Very few in our team have that burning passion. TPJ, McGuire, Bird seems to have it in him, Hodges did, Parker did. I can't name much more than that. Boyd doesn't seem to give a **** either way.

This, play each game like there’s sheep stations on the line

That doesn’t sound right. I saw calls (and rightfully so) for TPJ & Lodge to be re-signed and that’s about it? There’s justified speculation on pretty much every other player on our roster atm.

It says even more when our next best attacking threat is the slowest hooker in the game.

It’s not only that he’s slow though, his lack of creativity and his service to the forwards leave a lot to be desired at times. Don’t get me wrong I have a tonne of respect for Macca but he may as well be playing lock because his biggest asset is his heart and work rate.

He's kicked on since then. Unlike Milford, who only kicks on the 4th straight down the fullbacks throat.

Did you misread though?

Yes he had to move because of that awful blunder but it will follow him forever to be sure.

Are you confused?

I was being sarcastic. This is his team

When McGuire smiles he looks so much like an over grown rat.

Such is the life of a broncos fan in this century.

I don’t fully agree. The Storm looked pretty clueless against the Sharks. They gave away more penalties than us, but they also dropped a lot of ball, as did we. And how shit did Croft and Munster look? Plenty of talk about how we need a “real” halfback like Croft, but his kicking game was just as shithouse as Nikorima’s.

For mine, it’s the same as it was against the Dragons - our pack was outmuscled and out-enthused, and our halves has nothing to work with. The Tigers game was an arm-wrestle where both teams stifled each other’s attack. The game where our halves looked the best? The Cowboys by far - because we were all over their forwards, limited their opportunities and gave our halves space to work.

Spot on.

I’ve been saying it for a few years now. It wouldn’t matter if we had Lockyer and Joey in the halves, if we get utterly dominated like we have been, and make silly errors consistently, our halves aren’t going to do much.

Give them some momentum and space to run, and they will do some real damage as they did against Cowboys.

Facts are that these two are not organisers or game managers but ball runners. Much of our organising falls back on Macca. Milf needs to be a little more vocal, and push the guys around a bit better, no doubt.

I think our real problem is the pack to be honest. Attitude and application hasn’t been there except for 45 good mins against the Cowboys. Enthusiasm is down, and confidence is starting to go with it.

But the key question is, why is the enthusiasm down?

I agree.

It’s all of that - application, attitude, enthusiasm and confidence.

Not sure if the lacking of any of it rests at the minute with the coaching staff or the players. However half the head coaches brain is instilled in the English side and our so called attacking coach in the State of Origin side.

I would argue both would honestly admit they would prefer their “alternative teams” to be more successful than the Broncos.

Herein lies a conundrum. This situation is not really going to be successful or so it seams.

Losing Hunt and company didn’t help but losing Alex Corvo was a complete disaster me thinks.

We were last night like a piece of flotsam lost at sea being pushed at will around the ground. So unBronco like I felt sick.

Somethings not right and I am most concerned there is nobody left in the organisation to fix it.

Corvo was absolutely a huge loss

We need to start players who are going to compete for the time they are on the pitch even if it means playing some players with lesser ability and hope it gives others who supposedly have more talent a kick up the backside.

I think we have three good props tbh in Moose, Lodge and TPJ. Tagatese i still think should be on the bench. After that, i think Offa, Sims and Sammy really need to start stepping up or maybe its time to give the younger guys like Fai a chance to show what he has.

Still think we missed a trick not getting in somebody like James Graham tbh.

FWIW to me the forwards (and probably the team to be fair) are trying to play too cute. We don't have that one forward just putting in a hard run or leading the defensive line speed and putting in a strong tackle. The closest is probably TPJ which is ridiculous considering he's one of the young guys.

They're just going out there taking their hit ups but not really feeling the game and taking a strong hit up or looking for a quick play the ball. Getting between guys to find your front and creating a bit of speed through the ruck for the halves to play off.

I watch every game and it becomes so frustrating watching other teams just generally being quicker than us through the ruck and that being the norm for them... it might be the whole team is just thinking too much... those forward runs two passes wide are just telegraphed and the defence picks them off and usually hard.

Their game should be just run hard hit them on the advantage line, find your front and fight for a quick play the ball. That's basically the storm prop game plan for the last 10yrs... it's a simple game plan but helps build them into the game and when that is perfected THEN put some variations into the mix. Don't need to start with two passes wide from the get go

I liked WB's presser after the match. As he said......it's not like the players don't have a game plan they're working towards, but when the ball gets dropped on the first tackle 4 or 5 times and you find yourself 0-10 on the scoreboard. The game plan kinda goes out the window and you're forcing everything you do, trying to play catch up footy.

Which goes a long way to seeing why we look so disorganised. IMO...he is shit at it or,
as noted the other week, he is too stuffed from so much tackling to be thinking straight. Either way, if A.Mc is left to be "the" organiser....we're in for a long couple of seasons.
