PRE-GAME Round 4 - Storm vs Broncos

Morgan retiring could throw a massive spanner in the works for the retention of Dearden. They are going to have money to burn to throw at him. He's a Cowboys fan and his family live in Mackay i believe.
Outside of a fifitalike deal I actually think this could make it an even worse move for dearden. The cowboys are bad, really bad, worse then us and that is saying something. They have a rookie coach who is bagging his own players after 1 game, they have a 750,000+ winger, and they have a 1 million dollar best forward in the game by a country mile who can't change a thing about the team. He'd be asked to turn that around if he was the halfback on big money, and he won't be able to at all, especially not on his own. I'm not a fan of Morgan, always thought he was and is over rated, but at least he was a small glimmer of hope/something to lean on in thought times "Morgan's coming back soon", and he'd help take pressure ofg of dearden.
Itd be the last big contract he ever got bcos the team would not help h ikm get another one. And if the cowboys are losing, they ain't the Broncos, they will lose media attention pretty quickly. Could see another ash Taylor situation occurring.
We are bad.... but you can see a glimmer of hope if you keep most of the kids together and make a few smart buys. The cowboys would be COMPLETLY relying on him to pull them out of it

Croft has had many chances and has been ordinary in all of them. The bulldogs game should've been the final straw that he doesn't fit our side long or short term. He always makes the wrong decisions all the time, managed to fool 3 coaches into thinking he is a first grade halfback when really he is not and he is supposed to be the halfback to take the pressure off of Milford but can't even manage to do that right. Dearden may be young but he has looked far more better in the role and engages the forwards far better. Everyone but some posters on here and Kevvie can see Croft should not be in the starting halfback. You know he is a crap halfback when he is getting laughed at by JT, Fatty, Braith etc. Plus Dearden shouldn't be sent back to Q-Cup when he should be in starting side since round 1 and stayed there unless he got injured etc.
That's because..

Croft is not a halfback.

Milford and croft are playing the same roles and make it harder for everyone around them.

For ***** sake we need a steady organising halfback and guess what, we have one waiting.

As much as I hate Bellyache and the Storm, I noticed he rarely releases players unless they are generally crap. Can someone tell me one successful player that the Storm didn’t want that played better at their new club (& you can’t use Cronk because he CHOSE to leave for Sydney).

Croft is probably our best option for a utility right now... we need someone to be able to give Turps a break
Three rounds in and turps looks exhausted already. Once Staggs gets back if we are to ease him back into first grade, I’d consider putting him in at 14. Maybe Niu can also fill that role eventually too

Cowboys tbf to them actually have some good young players coming through but like us in a lot of ways not one of them is ready yet. They are a mess.

Chose your list Foordy as it’s the most longest. Except for Tohu not being wanted I don’t recall Bellamy actively wanting to offload those players above.
Widdop he wanted to keep as backup for Cronk but I thought Widdop wanted to play as starting 13 and not second fiddle to Cronk.

Excellent skills from Croft then hey ? He managed to fool Bellamy, Seeplod and KW but there's no way he can fool you hey!!!! Of course there's the other totally plausible claim " Croft ALWAYS makes the wrong decisions ALL of the time" yep, no fooling you is there!!

How about Milford takes the pressure off Milford? You know, by doing what he gets a $1,000,000 a season for. Hell, maybe he could actually do his job and let our bargain basement half back do his ?

I mentioned his prior history because you seem to be going out of your way to ignore it. You don't give much credit to the people on the forum if you think their opinions would be formed by what ex-Bulldog Anasta said on the weekend.

You object to misrepresentation and lies, but ignore Crofts prior playing history as a courtesy to a new coach. You take the for-against for Season 21, a total of 3 games that include the Bulldogs and spin it into a positive, again ignoring prior history.

I can only ask why? What benefit is there in pretending? Where Bellamy and Seibold failed, first year coach Kevin Walters will succeed? At least the Storm knew when to call it a day.

While he is in no way solely responsible for the teams performance, wearing number 7 for the Broncos does come with some responsibility one would hope.
He should be called Darius Croft. It's the same old scapegoat mentality we saw in previous years. Everything is Crofts fault. Milford plays like a busted arse, Crofts fault. Clearly, I wasn't spinning it into a positive, I included the no? On the end just in case you misunderstood.

You plucked last years horrir run stats and put them on Croft, I merely illustrated that that can be done in another way. I didn't ignore anything. Last season Croft only played 14 of the 20 games so he wasn't the issue or the problem.

We had a lot of players not contributing or playing well below their best yet Croft was repeatedly singled out as well as Boyd. Even Isaako was an issue amongst others. TPJ copped some too. There was a lot of blame to go round but Croft has nothing to be ashamed of. He was fantastic in a defensive sense and tried his guts out whenever given a chance. If the rest of his team mates put in like he did we would NEVER have finished last. When we were beaten he was devastated, others were utterly indifferent.

We got Milford money to throw at Dearden and we should if push comes to shove.

The future is Dearden.
Dearden is years away from the money Milford is on, and if that's what is required to keep him he can pack his bags now.

That money should be saved for someone like Reynolds if possible, Filling the playmaking 7 role with someone who is one of the best in the game and has plenty of experience is the perfect signing for us.

I’ll play Devils advocate and say both need a good kick up the backside. They aren’t junior players and have both been in the game long enough to know what they should or shouldn’t be doing.
Having past success means shit all; I put in 5 good years but (admittedly) 1 year of “going thru the motions” and eventually got fired. Wasn’t pretty at the time but it really put a need rocket up my arse and now I’m better off.
I think some “tough love” both halves and other players need to stop coasting along otherwise we are going to win the spoon in consecutive years!

Storm are vulnerable. Very vulnerable.

Problem is, we're not strong enough to exploit that vulnerability yet. We had some good moments against the Bulldogs, especially defensively where we were moving up and hitting them hard. But we still had too many lapses where we just fell back into old habits and a better side would have beaten us.

Hopefully it gives us a confidence boost and we can build on it. I'm not holding my breath, though.

All I ask, don't let it be a blowout. At least be competitive.

Milford and Croft really need to step up in this game. They aren't doing enough and they need to do more.

Fair enough but Croft isn't coasting. He never has coasted. He puts in 100% all the time but I totally accept that Croft is not the gifted half back we crave. What I won't accept that because he isn't a world beater he's a piece of shit. In my opinion he's a moderately talented bloke he gives his best week in week out. I think that's all we need too. Shane Perry was the same. What we do need is a world class 5/8 and then Croft( or Dearden ) would do a perfectly acceptable job. I'm sick of the hate on this place but I'm staying anyway.

Coming up against Storm at home who have just lost 2 in a row. The line should be about 40.
