POST GAME [Round 5, 2023] Broncos vs Wests Tigers

Yeah but he’s just about done. I’d give him a game and see if he can still do it but that’s the line up going forward imo

Its so difficult to say he's done for me because he's just one of these blokes like Myles who goes up about 10 levels for Queensland. I just dont see them not staying loyal to him. Personally, i think even at Origin he isnt great as a center.

Yeah Riki is my favourite player

He's legit mine. Spoken on here before about enjoying having Kiwi Broncos to support and it's been slim pickings for the most part, but Jordan is a good'un. Really liked his game tonight, glad that someone pointed out that it was Gillette-esque. Hope he stays on that path and keeps building on this.

Nice to hear our 'other' team song in the sheds after the pressers there!

Defence was good again apart from the Walsh lapse. It’s allowing us to play risky footy. I still would like to see them build pressure but Riki and Reynolds both mentioned that was required so it’s been identified.

Riki has really come along as a player. That 50 game mark really does tend to be when it all starts coming together. Nice job, Riki

Imagine putting someone on report for absolutely nothing, and penalizing them for struggling to break free of a player holding them down by the collar 🤷

No doubt Payne hit him in the chin, but he was more just pushing him over and he just caught him. I can see how the ref might have thought his arm was swinging a little but the bunker should have been saying what actually happened to him. Nothing incident.

Good win. Bit sloppy in the 2nd half but 46 points will do. I've been a loud RIki critic but he's having a great start to the year, kudos to him.

how bad were the tigers though? like they picked 13 dudes outta the crowd and said do your best. gotta feel for their fans!

Credit to Walters/Paix. That combo seems to be getting better each week. Just doing their job well.
Not ready to rate them above adequate, but neither are letting us down and they were definitely adequate tonight. Billy's defence has improved. That's something. If the rest of the spine continues to fire at this level it doesn't really matter, as long as they don't drop the ball.

I'm not a fan of Coates being picked on the wing for Origin. Him catching a line drop out that wasn't going ten meters last night sums him up for me. Super quick but miniscule football brain.
Speaking of wingers with football brains: Jesse Arthars is no superstar but he does seem to understand the game and take the right options. We should extend him if he's okay playing backup.

Quoting this before a hint of a compliment for billy from @McHunt gets recanted lol

Slater said something the other week about winning games is great but sometimes it can also create bad habits and when you need to grind, play percentages and build pressure, you can’t.
This hits home and it’s why I keep harping on about the little things.

many armed force personnel with experience can tell you, the ones that get hit and pushed on the regular are exponentially more switched on at all times and look for the little things.

on the other hand there are the ones that have been lucky enough to never cop it and become complacent. The saying “trial by fire” has many meanings, not just being up against a wall.

I hope so badly that the last 7 games they played last year should always be in the back of their minds…I’m not convinced.

they still don’t have that siege mentality.

Saturday night rant

I was going to come in here and say this. I am watching the replay and honestly, Walters was really good, like one of our best. Paix kept the roll on going when he came on too.
While I respect that this is your experience, I’m definitely not of the view he was one of our best.

He was good though. This should be his bench mark.

No, he was still probably one of our weakest. But everyone was above 7/10 for me, so that's not exactly a sledge, more of a reflection on how we've lifted across the board, including them.
