PRE-GAME [Round 5, 2024] Broncos vs Storm

Again, I’m hoping that it’s just a bit of extra kegs he’s carrying and hence the pace is down. Not ripping into Selwyn, he’s been solid this year. Just want him to keep it up and not go down the Mitchell path.

Cobbo is still a kid but he is starting to look like a giant out there. Obviously I want to keep both him and Staggs but if I had to prioritise, I’m going with Cobbo. He looks like he is about ready to dominate for the next ten years. And the best part is, he isn’t drifting out of games anymore, he’s always looking for work. So much talent in this guy.

It was a fucking great tackle by Dearden. He kept Selwyn on the sideline and didn't give him the chance to go back inside, and then had that last burst of effort to nail him right on the line. I think Selwyn did take it a bit easy at about the 30m line as he thought he was there but take nothing away from Dearden there.

Mariner can't stay on the wing forever. He's wasted there.

I see Cobbo has not only inherited Herbie's jersey but also his punching bag status...
As round as a punching bag…,,

We just don’t want him to turn into a fat ****,…

Has been playing well, just lay off the seconds at dessert pls

Yeah the big fella looking really comfortable out there and not in a good way. Probably isn’t too far off being sent back to Q Cup to lose weight imo. Had a great game recently but has obviously lost pace.

I agree. I think he could easily take a similar path as Latrell or Milford where he relies on his talent rather than his application to doing the little things off the field to maximise his ability. He's know to be a bit of a lazy trainer.

People here are carrying on like Selwyn got chased down by a forward.

This is not a Fogarty/Papalii situation. Dearden is quite quick himself.
Selwyn is one of the incumbent Test wingers, and a length of the field specialist. At least partly because he's fast. He takes never getting run down for granted.

Even Dearden said something to the effect of him being in cruise mode. Credit to him for nabbing that intercept - another of his specialties - but he should've left Dearden eating dust.

The ongoing concern with Selwyn is - inbetween flashes of brilliance - he might be a touch lazy at times. Instances like this feed that concern.

The comparison with Herbie is unfair. He was NEVER accused of being lazy. Only selfish. They don't share any of the same concerns.

Being selfish is shitty, especially in the centres, but lazy (and unfit) is the kiss of death. Selwyn needs to squash that concern beyond reasonable doubt.

I was saying the same re Selwyn last year .
He`ll get a chance at centre sooner or later . Although I think Arthars is probably still in front of him in the centres pecking order .

He wouldn`t have been wasted if he scored twice like he potentially could have .
Moving him to centre causes a lot of reshuffle . To the left you swap him with Selwyn and start learning the defensive systems again ? Drop Koton and find another right winger ? I don`t think so . Mariner will split the line and run the length sooner or later .He keeps threatening to . Just a matter of time .

I dont think anyone is complaining he got caught for speed, its more he played the situation dumb. Wet field, you stay away from the sideline, you dont run close to it. Just common sense.

There’s a reason that’s considered a try saver of the year contender, it was amazing and Deartome deserves all the accolades he gets for it.

Dearden is noted for his quickness and his great defense for a half. In that situation, Cobbo would 9 times out of 10 normally use his size and fend and go in relatively easily. He’ll learn from it

To use this as a way to bag him out, question his fitness / work ethic by some of you is ridiculous. He is three games into playing centre, last week doesn’t count and has clearly bulked up, he needs to get used to his new body but isn’t letting anyone at all down, far far from it.

Cobbo is tracking along fantastically.

He was putting his hand up to take a tough carry from our own end nearly the next set which is was good to see

Deardens chase was great, he had abit of a head start on Cobbo and Cobbo probably thought he had him covered and I don't think he's alone in thinking that.
Deardens speed actually really surprised me.
