POST GAME [Round 5, 2025] Broncos vs Tigers

Heading home from the game, and hearing and seeing a bit of doom and gloom, bit over the top for mine.

We were a Hunt dropped ball over the line from a 2nd 50pts scored in 5 weeks.

Not pretending we don't have heaps to work on, it's obvious we do. But it's week 5 and no team is playing perfect right now. We're 4 and 1 and I think it's very clear our best footy is in front of us. Which is a very very good spot to be in.

The only long term worry I have for this season is backrow. I think ours is unfortunately on the poor side compared to other teams, on both sides of the ball. Could end up being a concern.

You don't win comps in rd 5, but you can lose them. Cliche as ****, but it rings true.

Hope Reyno and Piaks are okay

Also, if the NRL wants more Piakura KO incidents, keep going overboard on this head high crap. That's what's going to happen.

Thought it was fitting the lines from the Roar game last night were still on show given how much diving we saw.

Good to get a win and score lots of points but Madge will be working on our defence big time this week. Telling how most of the Tigers points came after penalties and multiple 6 agains. I'm as confused as anyone what half those high tackle penalties were for. If an attacking player ducks his head as he hits the line they are almost guaranteed a penalty.

I think if we get can get our backrowers to defend properly we'll be fine.

We have an elite front row, elite fullback, elite halves, Staggs, Cobbo and Arthurs - all rep players in the outside backs. We have to make up for that with some budget players and it seems to be in the backrow for us.

With how much strike we have elsewhere, they just need to defend properly and we'll be laughing.

Having watched a few games this week I’m just confused about the game.

Phantom high tackle penalties, inconsistent sin binning, diving is rampant and the refs don’t know which rules to enforce game to game.

Strange game but bank the win. Defence will be the focus for training this week

This was guaranteed when head office commented about the lack of sin bins for high tackles.

This week every ref / bunker official are quick to show their bosses they are following instructions.

This round has seen some of the softest penalties and sin bins for high tackles in the history of rugby league

Such a "managed" game - so many penalties and six agains that only went in one direction.

There was a point on their line where 3 tackles in a row, they layed all over us - no six again, nothing. Thankfully big Willy scored, that was atrocious.

The soft penalties for bumps to the head was expected but still a farce.

Piaks was probably gone for a week or two anyway from his shoulder to the head effort, that would have likely been close to if not a binning any week, let alone this week. He's a player that is just a bit sloppy in defence, both for his own sake and others. Hope he's OK though.

ARey at least was a low impact / low speed pull of the hammy - even still, if you have a tight hammy, the chance of developing a major injury off the back of it is drastically increased, should definitely keep him on ice for 2-3 weeks.

Getting very over teams coming out and giving it everything in that first 20 and getting rewards from it. Really need to be able to go out there and dominate that intense period far better than we are now.

Our left edge was fairly putrid tonight, particularly Jetski and Shiba - both were very ordinary.

Home-brand Hunt into the starting 13 next week with both Piaks and Riki out - very worried.

- Reyno - Felt it in the first half and then came back out and tweaked it

- Maguire - It was a funny first half, they were coming at us pretty hard and nice to see they controlled it in the back end of the half

- Maguire - They were asking lots of questions of us and we kept putting ourselves on the back foot with six agains and penalties
- Maguire - Piaks is fine, he's joking in the sheds but he'll go into protocols
- Maguire - X was great, Patty was also fantastic as were Haas and Jensen
- Maguire - X is growing as a player, has so much upside
- Reyno - not really confused with the crack down but it is frustrating because the game is very stop start
- Reyno - didn't answer if he wants to play on but he's feeling younger and still feels he has a lot to give
- Reyno - Hunt was great at half, he stepped in fine and he is a quality player, nice to be able to call on him

- Maguire - I'm really enjoying coaching this group, happy to get the two points, happy they are shaping up
- Maguire - I think we have a lot of improvement in us but it is pleasing the team stays calm when the pressure is on

I'm shitting on the refs hard this season for a reason, but i also feel kind of sorry for them. It has to be confusing and infuriating to have your boss chop and change your rules and tell you one thing one week and another thing the next week.

The Willison second try set play was so good.
