POST GAME [Round 5, 2025] Broncos vs Tigers

That can open up another can of worms though with teams exploiting it and getting free interchanges.
Some teams already have phantom HIAs during games at certain times.
Just make them have to sub on for whoever replaced them... if they don't charge them an interchange

Another strong win while not playing to our full potential.

In this one I think the crackdown affected the boys defensive mind set. Especially in crash plays on the try line. To be fair this was common this weekend in a lot of games. As there is only one solid option and that's going high, if you duck into the midsection your either getting knocked out or the bloke is scoring as he falls over the line. If you go high your risking clipping the head.

The NRL has lost it again with these stupid overreactions. Just send for 10 direct contact with force to the head with intent, eg swinging forearm or shoulder to heas. This penalising little clips to the chin of falling players is a joke. Like Mal said this is impossible to stop in our game. Everyone knows what a nasty high shot is and 90% of this weeks high shots are not this.

Also while on this rant, why the hell would you try to enforce lower tackles when the game no longer rewards such tackles. The held call is twice as long as it once was, the dominant tackle no longer is rewarded the way it was and your risk of concussion is significantly higher when attempting modern players with legs that make up a huge proportion of the overall body mass.

If they really want this then the 10m needs to be reduced back to five and held or dominant tackle needs to be called the moment the ball carrier concedes ground or is no longer having forward momentum.

Back to the bronks. We managed again despite the penalties and six agains to manage the test due to fitness. There is still a lot of defensive work to be done.

Gos is my opinion not holding up and is on his way to making way once everyone is back. With Piakura out I would make a left field play and pull Shibs in to second row while playing Deine in centre. Shibs has the size and ability to do a job here. That allows us to keep Hunt on the bench and maintain a strong side.

It's unfortunate about Reynolds, he has been exceptional to start the year. But he can't help himself with going for the big plays that put the strain on his body. But I guess that's also what makes him great. Reminds me of Hodges in that respect. You just have to accept he will be missing here and there over the year and hopefully for minor strains.

I really thought we never looked like using the game this week. There was never a sign of panic. It's coming together and when it clicks I don't see many teams staying with us.

What’s the word on Reynolds? He didn’t seem to distressed once he came off. Almost looked like he would have come back on if needed?

If Shibasaki could shift to second row mid game, it would solve a heck of a lot of problems. That would allows us to carry Mariner on the bench, who would also provide cover for centre, wing and fullback.

But have we seen any evidence to suggest he could make that transition - and do a better job than a specialist second row? He made 6 effective tackles last night, and fucked up 2. His tackle efficiency this season is running at 81%. Is this an upgrade?

That might be the hurdle.

Its a good question. Perhaps it can be refined to would he do a worse job than Gosiewski? Otherwise, you could start Piaks and then at about 50-60 Shibs shifts to second-row and Mariner comes on.

But this to me is where Staggs comes in. He can play second row and would allow us to get his fend even closer in and give Mariner game time.

Piakura has been given a 2 match ban if he accepts it.

Smashed by the ref in game and smashed by the MRO out of game.

So Gosiewski gets a two game stretch to prove he's got it...unless he is out injured too.
Staggs pinged as well:

Kotoni Staggs (Broncos)Grade 1 Dangerous Contact (Tripping)1st OffenceTBC$1000-$1500 fine

Well he’s out with concussion at least for a week so might as well accept it I guess.
