Round 5 Discussion

It's been a bloody strange season I reckon.

Unless Manly can pull of a miracle comeback, my weekends tipping will be 0/7 an the end of today

Don't worry, mate. You're not the only one..

Been a very entertaining and fresh season full of surprise results and great games.

Just 1/7 so far LOL

Yep, that'll do me pretty much for tipping. This season is straight out of the twilight zone.

On the panthers/raiders game. Seriously how slow is Idris? That intercept and 'run away' was papain fully slow. I reckon Freddie's run at the nines was quicker
What's that?

2/7! **** yeah, I'm awesome!

Here's a tip for the tipping. Just pick the outsiders.

I'm actually picking the exact opposite team that I would usually pick for next week.

Panthers
Titans
Knights
Eels
Tigers
Sharks
Warriors
Dragons

inb4 8/8

Based on the way the season has gone, getting 8/8 with that is likely to happen.

This seem to be the most even competition in living memory. Every time you think some team is standing out they get smashed.Does anyone really believe the Titans are in comp leading form.

Is this the comp the salary cap was meant to produce?

I wish the round finished with a Sunday Night game instead of Monday night game.

Even the pros at the betting agencies are getting it wrong big time. It seems the rule changes have changed the game more than anyone thought and the teams who were getting the most advantage from slowing things down have come back to the field.

I really thought Manly, Melbourne and the Saints got unfairly caned this weekend though. Way too many penalties for some teams which were overlooked for the other.

Also I lost count of the lifting tackles that never even drew a penalty one by Greg Bird today in particular was unbelievable how it didn't get penalised.

Well yes I think the Refs have been shithouse in general this year. The Dragons got a flogging by the refs last night.

I really think the NRL need to clear up the rules a little more about the grounding in a try.

Dugan lost the ball, but he got a hand to it before it hit the ground. According to the rules I've got, that's a try because he regained possession prior to the ball hitting the ground. It doesn't say he needs to have control of the ball, it just says contact has to be made with the hand or the arm prior to the ball hitting the ground.

A similar thing happened in the Titans vs Sharks game when Kelly was denied a try after he got a hand to the ball before it hit the ground.

Both of those should have been tries imo.

No, you can't use the ground to help you regain the ball, I think you will find that is the reason

They're saying that they need to re-gather it, not just touch it. But what does that mean exactly? Dugan had both hands on the ball again before it hit the ground, it wasn't a simultaneous one-hand grounding.

More worrying is the try manly scored after the siren sounded. As in, it sounded, the refs missed it, Manly played the ball after that siren, and scored off the next play when the Tigers were about to head to the sheds. Unforgivable, and the video ref didn't overturn it even though they went to them to check on-side etc. All refs should be sacked IMO.

It's similar to a knock on when players go to catch the ball but it touched another player, automatic knock on even though a lot of the time the ball would have been regathered it's something you will never know. After the Slater one last year or the year before I think this is a better rule.

This is what confuses me, they know they were dead wrong but can't overturn the decision? Just doesn't seem right.
