POST GAME Round 5 - Sea Eagles vs Broncos

At times like that you just gotta take a bit of a "dive", just lie on the ground for a bit and get the refs to check it.

And that is a symptom of what is wrong with this stupid game. So many things have been ruined because idiots who lay down win penalties. It doesn't matter the reason, as soon as the refs see a player laying on the ground, they get penalised.

This weekend alone:

DCE wins a penalty instead of a clear try being given
Finucane runs into Klemmer and then lays down, penalty given

I haven't watched many of the games but I am sure there are more.

That game on Thursday night was an absolute disgrace and that non-penalty citing sums it up. The most conspicuous thing in it all is the media's complete lack of scrutiny. That game was an absolute horror show of refereeing but not a peep from the idiots that call themselves journalists.

Not to mention the laying down for crushers and high shots... something we don't seem to do any of.

I wish we would start doing it instead of pretending like we are better than that (never going to the judiciary, internal suspensions when NSWRL get off with nothing, etc.).... the game is dead and cheating wins

Oh so they aren't aliens concealing their appearance as humans and con only be revealled as aliens with special sunglasses?

Yeah but that would have gone against the narrative...
People (including some of our own fans) are pretty quick to say we only have ourselves to blame for Thursday night, but when you see shit like this come out it really does leave you wondering how much more could have gone against us in that game. It's infuriating and you're 100% right, it would not have fit Vince McMahon's story line for the week so it just gets swept under the rug.

Even on the big league wrap (total waste of time btw) and there was a game where Ennis was using the youth of the team and injuries as an excuse for them losing (might've been Newcastle?? ) and I was thinking so it's ok for other teams to use that as an excuse, but not Broncos.

Then when they finally got to the Broncos review they spent the whole time talking about recruitment... Hooper blabbering on about Dearden wanting out and Ennis saying it's a kick in the guts to Macca now that they're going after Issac.

Nothing about the actual game... isn't the whole point of the show meant to be about reviewing the weekend's games???

Nothing about the lopsided penalty count... apparently nothing to be positive about from the performance except Coates who is a "superstar in the making" (pre-empting their next star junior that wants out).

Also in total disbelief that he hasn't been a mainstay in the side since his debut against the sharks... ok so let's just forget that Coates was in the side for several weeks after his debut (which showed that his defence was horrendous)... but you're also saying Broncos should have even more inexperienced juniors in the lineup??

Can these guys make up their fucking minds!!

Other teams: injuries and inexperience an excuse.
Broncos: apparently no excuses... and should've kept Macca, and should be playing more juniors (Dearden and Coates), but also have too much inexperience in the side. Also needed a halfback for Milf, but shouldn't have got Croft and should've instead put it all on Dearden leading the team around

Would it still have been a kick in the guts to Macca that he was going to be depth only in our squad so we let him go to a team for more game time??... Nah you guys should've kept him because Turps was always going to break his leg

I mean these guys already ended Tim Mannah's career by advocating that it would be such a shame for him to leave parra last year and actually play first grade at wests... at which point Mannah back flipped and subsequently didn't have enough appearances to join a super league team and has now retired.

Macca was scheduled to play a bit role this year and would therefore fade off into the sunset... I'd even suggest that Paix would've taken the utility spot over Macca as the year progressed. Whereas now he has an opportunity to extend his career

I'm sortof beginning to get the impression that this is all tied to the new super secretive Broadcast deal as if Fox now have some vested interest.

Hooper is a flat out liar. He makes shit up and bangs on about it with faux outrage on every platform until is lies are eventually exposed, at which stage he says nothing about it like the coward he is.

Best one was gutherson on the weekend. He did the parra thing where after a bomb they have a chaser run through and jump early just to get into the defending fullback's way. Thing was he jumped into the fullback and flipped over him and when he hit the ground sat up, looked at the ref to appeal for a penalty and when it didnt come lay down trying to get one from the video ref. Would be hilarious if not so sad.

Parra are really playing for the penalty (much like canberra) these days, and look at how that is reflected in the table.

Not sad, pathetic. I saw that too, and it confirmed for me that Gutherson is a weasel and come to think of it, so is shifty Brad Arthur

They're basically just a team full of Kenny Edward's now.

Captain is a diver and their halfback is a screaming whinger... good example for the NRL to place on a pedestal and reward with a premiership

I’d take an asshole coach and a couple of weasels if that meant we sat on top of the ladder. Or do we already have those....

Well, I'm ambivalent about diving. I mean, NRL is as much about theatre and spectacle as simply sport, as long as it's done with style and panache and not the puerile vaudeville of Gutherson. Aside from which, there would be no soccer without diving and we couldn't have that now, could we.

We should go the way of ice hockey. If people try to milk a penalty or take a dive they are penalised. Its not perfect but it would be an improvement on having no safeguards against this trend

Annesley Ref Review

- The Carrigan strip was the correct call and it's never been let go. He then replayed an incident from the Tigers/Raiders game where Twal was penalised for stripping the ball.

- Milford was denied a 20/40.

- Boyd no try decision was correct. Oates could not have received the ball in that situation and had to run at the inside shoulder.

- The DCE decision was correct. Thompson could have received the ball and DCE received the pass outside of him. Since Croft came off the line, it was deemed he had made a defensive decision. It was just fantastic play from Manly, and they shouldn't be disqualified for that shape.

I agree with the first three, not sold on the last.

I just watched it and I agree on the strip even though it could have been doctored and the second example of consistency came from a match AFTER the first incident and could easily be organised.

What I don't like is how they don't review incidents that go unremarked by commentators. For instance, in the Brisbane-Manly game there was an incident of a manly player offloading the ball and then preventing the Brisbane player (Boyd, I think) from making any play on the loose ball or the player who picked it up. Furthermore, there have been instances in previous games where Oates (and someone else) has been tackled without the ball and play is allowed to continue.

This review BS just gets my goat. Cue Homer's "you know what really grinds my gears" gif.
