POST GAME [Round 6, 2022] Panthers vs Broncos

Notice how Paix arrives marginally late?

Flop.

It was such a ticky tack call but because the referee has to make their presence felt of course they blew it right up.

And boy did they blow it up.

Yeah that is pretty poor and I bet you could spot 100 others in game that were worse. I've watched that a few times to try and spot and you know what, Paix is tackling Edwards BEFORE the ref calls surrender. This sort of trash I'm sure is turning fans away.

So is sin-binning anyone who open-hand slaps an opponent the new precedent? if so, we need Gamble now more than ever. Just instruct him to yap away and get in everyone's face. It should result in at least one sin bin per game.

The fans couldn’t care less what grade it gets defined as, it just has to be consistent.

We have to sit here and watch one set of rules and standards applied to some teams, and other teams are completely immune from all rules, restrictions and repercussions of their actions.

It’s getting sickeningly obvious that V’Landys is trying to emulate an NBA / MLB style competition with 2-3 ‘super’ dynasty-style teams. 3 teams of megastars that everyone get behind because they’re constantly successful is a better business proposition than an even 16 team competition with fewer individual standouts and star teams… it’s not a sport anymore, it’s just a spectacle.

If he really wants to do that it would be better achieved by eliminating the salary cap and gi back to the refs actually officiating games rather than trying to manufacture results

At least that way you won't have fans constantly mocking the sport and calling the administrators corrupt.

The problem with that is then the WRONG teams would be the ones creating the dynasty

Not doing much wrong doesnt mean you played well either. Look at the amount of times their forwards drove him backwards. I mentioned it in the live game chat, he was getting driven back like Tesi gets pushed back. Every single one of our bench players were poor imo. Not one had a positive impact on the game for us

I've seen him play much better and have way more impact than he did last night. He was like a prop version of Billy Walters.
100%.
He usually goes okay for the role he’s supposed to play but that was an average game for him

Ok, tell me I'm dreaming here but in the highlights at around 2.08, the ref calls surrender VERY clearly and then immediately penalises the Broncos for taking advantage of the call. Subsequently, Palasia ends up in the bin (probably fairly, you can't do that these days). So what am I missing here? Why did Brisbane get penalised for following the very clear call?

Yes and no. You heard correctly I think but he penalizes Paix for flopping on and then holding on. If Paix had immediately let go Palasia would have been given leeway to linger a bit. It was down to Paix.

Is that the actual rule though? If a ref calls surrender, does it actually say the second defender needs to get off? Because if you watch the replay there, surrender is called, Paix is ALREADY in the tackle so nothing wrong there, the call is supposed to allow the players that extra bit of time to tackle as I understand it and then almost immediately, a penalty is called. I just don’t see anything wrong there other than the ref stuffing the whole thing up. And for the record, I didn’t even think it was a surrender but nevertheless, it was called.

Does anyone have Annersley’s contact details? I genuinely want an explanation to this. I will ask for one without criticising because, while I believe the ref totally screwed it up, I want to know if I’m in the wrong and if so, how this sort of situation benefits the ‘flow’ of the game as they talk about a lot.

When the ref calls surrender the tackling player has an extra 2 secs to hold on and restrict the tackled player.
When the ref then calls held they wait a further 2 secs and then call 'release'. The tackling players must immediately release on the 'release' call (unless of course you're a penrith, Rooster or Storm player).

Oh, I agree. I think the opposition knowing Jake's always going to pass it is a huge disadvantage. The same way I think the opposition knowing Herbie will never pass it is a huge disadvantage. In both cases, it's the opposite of being in "two minds." It's the opposite of being sold a dummy. It's fooling no one.

But for some reason it doesn't seem to bother the coach. Go figure.
What makes turpins situation worse is, he looks directly at who he is going to pass it to too. He never looks one way and goes the other, or looks like he is playing the front runner and goes out the back (or vice versa) and his passes are not out in front to get players running on to it.

At least against the Panthers, he didn't have the option to run in front of Payne or Patty, and then dump it back to them, which usually happens at least twice a set.

Our offloads usually go to him as well and he’s a deer in the headlights. Except for Kennedy, he passed it to the opposite dummy half 🤣

Shame we can't get these guys and gal officiating a bit more then.
Sharpe would be up there for worst referee running around and is often on the sideline for our games missing everything... she missed the Milford 20/40 last year amongst countless other things she misses

Ball on the ground = tackle completed . Arriving after the ball touches the ground while player is held = flop .
