POST GAME Round 6 - Broncos vs Dragons

It felt like I was watching an execution scene from the Green Mile, except nobody gave the Dragons a wet sponge.

Despite the win, it didn't feel like the Broncos night. More than anything, they just happened to have front-row seats as the Dragons imploded, failing to complete a fool-proof grind-em-out plan.

That isn't taking away from the Broncos. They certainly stood up when it mattered and shut down whatever chances the Dragons had but when you're looking back at a season, sometimes there are games where your team is just along for the ride.

Last night was just one of those games.

On a positive note, how good was that try from Milford? It was a mirror image of the Game III 2002 No Try to Lockyer. At that time, that was one of the most freakish things I've seen on a football field, Milf made it look like child's play. Tony didn't have one of his better games, but some of his touches were simply world class. As frustrated as I was with the game, as a Broncos fan I feel blessed to have him in our side.

Am I the only one who didn't think Milford's try was THAT amazing? I reckon at least 3 blokes in my B Grade social touch league team could have pulled that off (and have).

The kid is a freak though. Hopefully we've got another decade of watching him in a Broncos jersey tearing teams apart.

Are you allowed to even kick in touch?

It was a great effort, don't know why anyone would knock it.

Oztag you can kick. Although it's pretty much just grubbers only, kicks over head height are penalties/handovers

You must have a pretty good B Grade social touch team then
I suggest you watch it again because there was definitely some skill in getting to the ball and finally putting it down just before the dead ball line. It was just Milford made it look easy. Doesn't mean any average joe blow could do it

its mostly just you mate sorry, lol

that was a horse shit game but it was almost worth to see that grab from Milf, sure it wasnt quite the acrobatic 10yr-highlight reel stuff that has been on show the last few years, but plenty of sprinters wouldnt have made it thru the line let alone anticipated/accounted for the bounce and pulled it down before the deadball line

we've done really well over the past 18 months but its really interesting to ponder what life would be like without hooks legacy signing, milf.. like BP says its like a blessing, id still love the club but without him i wouldnt blink about missing the odd game here and there because winning while playing like shit can be tedious at best

(oh & thanks BP for fixing up my stoopid post in the other thread.. pretty lazy joke on my part)

One good thing I am happy to see is that it seems Hunt is getting gradually better and better ever since the win over the Cows. Maybe that game was the monkey on his back that he needed to throw off.

Admittedly we did win B grade in a canter ;) No doubt it was great work, and I'm not trying to knock Milf or the try. In fact, I'm going to go watch the highlights package. Maybe my frustration at the game last night had me in a negative frame of mind!

We play TRL. Basically all the rules of rugby league without the tackling. Personally I think it's a million times better than regular touch footy.

The Brisbane Broncos may have registered a dominant 26-0 win over the St George Illawarra Dragons at Suncorp Stadium on Thursday night, but it was not enough to satisfy coach Wayne Bennett, with the master coach voicing his frustration after his team's 'disjointed performance'.

Bennett was not in the mood to talk to the media post-match, noticeably irritated with his side's lacklustre performance.

It took until the last ten minutes for Brisbane to put the Dragons away, with errors and penalties frustrating the home side throughout the match.

The Broncos failed to take their chances in the first half, only leading 12-0 at half-time after enjoying over 60 per cent of possession.

"I didn't like the way we played tonight. It was a disjointed game," Bennett said.

"It was a better second half, but we didn’t really put it together in the first half. It was well into the game before we put them away and that was the most frustrating part for me.

"We kept them in the game, but to their credit we didn't let them back in. We lost a game to Penrith three weeks ago because we couldn't close the game out and that didn't happen tonight.

"The completions were high and it needed to be like that. We would have been beaten tonight if they weren’t like that.

"We couldn't get the momentum and the game wasn't flowing for us. It was stop-start and there were a lot of penalties and drop balls."

Captain Corey Parker echoed Bennett's thoughts, condemning the Broncos' missed opportunities.

Parker worked hard in a typically solid performance, amassing 167 run metres and 26 tackles for the match.

"I think we landed the killer punch in about the 70th minute. For us, we had to be patient. It was an ugly game and we had to stick at it. I thought we did that," Parker said.

"We had some opportunities where we could have done some things a lot better, but we still iced the game and came away with a couple of late tries."

Brisbane now sit atop the NRL ladder in what is a stark contrast to the team they defeated.

The Dragons' loss condemned them to a second-straight scoreless defeat after a 36-0 loss to the North Queensland Cowboys last weekend.

St George Illawarra are now left languishing on two wins for the season after having only scored 40 points in six games this year.

I'm noticing a big difference in movement and speed with boyd. His kick returns are meaningful and there was a moment where Dugan made a half break and looked to get away but Boyd chased him down easy

I'd rather us play like this in round 6 than in round 26.

I bet whoever is in charge of putting stuff up on the big screen at the stadium would have felt pretty stupid if Milford's try was a no try..

Okay guys, can we please keep any posts about the rumour out of this thread?

This is a thread to discuss the game. Not the rumour.

Thanks.

Hard to know what to take away from this game.

To bag a 26-0 win while stuck in first gear is a great outcome. That said, I'm inclined to think it speaks more of the Dragons ineptitude than anything else.

Our high completion rate would generally correlate to a dominant performance but it really felt like we were going through the motions for much of the game. As against the Titans, there were numerous times that we'd get up field then look a little lost for ideas.

I'm particularly noticing we have a tendency to pass on to Milf with the defensive line set, hoping he'll conjure something out of nothing. While possible, it's resulting in him getting mobbed and squashed in gang tackles. Seems to be fatiguing him and blunting his impact. If nothing's on, I'd rather someone else take the hit up rather than trying to force his injection into the play.

On the up side, aside from a few dodgy kicks, I feel like Hunt is regaining his form which bodes well for us. Also impressed by Boyd so far this year, he's regained some pace and is heavily involved in both attack /defence.
