POST GAME Round 6 - Broncos vs Dragons

Just watched the replay. I don't get the negative opinions around here but hay that is what BroncosHQ is good for. 88% completion, total control of the game, 26 to 0 and 2 points on the ladder yeah but we are shit.... The Broncos at this stage of the season are about high completion rates, perfecting our kicking game, working the combinations and setting that solid defense. Oh and winning games.
The dragons defended admirably until the last 10 minutes, we worked them buggered and capitalized. I am sorry if that breaks some of your little hearts, that we didn't totally flog them, boo fucking hoo.

Good signs for us are Hunt improving every week, our rotation is being worked nicely and Milford is exceptional. Only issue is a few of our backs are carrying a few niggles, that look to be taking a bit of sting out of some of our plays.
Dragons were okay in defense but were completely abysmal in attack. Statistics are great for measuring things but they don't always give the whole context, we shouldn't have taken 70 minutes to get over 12 points considering we were blessed with possession and completion rates. No one is spitting the dummy about this, just being realistic. This was not a drubbing, we came up against a team that was dropping the ball after a penalty tap and showing no inclination to test the opposition besides Dugan and De Bellin.

kicking game and the impact of their forward pack edges us fairly handsomely at the moment imo ... they've got a lot of guys right smack in the prime of their careers right now ..

Their kicking game is light years ahead but only because of Thurston. His kicking game is about as close to spot on as you will ever get.

Other than that the Broncos are 2-1 in their last two games against the Cowboys and very nearly 3-0. Hard to say they're light years ahead.

Cowboys clearly one of the best two or three teams in the comp however.

You don't need statistics.......we were superior in every facet of the game.

I'm glad we looked off. While Goosnier said a lot of stupid things during the fox telecast, one thing he said rang true.

We have the form pack of the comp......and a spine to match. Plenty to build on for the season.

We getting better each week, not worse. I'm seeing a premiership.

EDIT: Flaming

Where are the black clouds in your report SF....the first few comments in this thread I was reading how fucked we are....??

Some people need to get a grip.

The problem was that we were given soooo many opportunities. And did nothing with them. Dropped balls, silly penalties (late in the count too), we had all the field position, and **** all to show for it. We should have scored at least 5 tries just in the first half. I have to credit their defence here, Dugan at the back was the cork that just refused to pop out and let the points leak. 26-0 is flattering us. 12-0 after 70-odd minutes gives a better representation.

It's dour to look at, but it's effective. Welcome (back) to WB footy without Kevvie's touch...

Wayne focuses mostly on defense because we have superstars in the team that will more often than not solve the game for us. If it's not Milford, Hunt will stand up, or James Roberts, or Boyd, or Gillett, or Oates, etc...and it's a pity, because I'd prefer to see us play a "score more tries than the opposition" footy, than the current "let less tries in than the opposition", and with the players in our team, we could be magnificent.

We had full control of the game tonight, and never really needed to get out of second gear against a truly dreadful Dragons outfit. And even after all that, they could still have scored 2 or 3 tries against our left side defense, were it not for pure ineptitude. We need to shore that up sooner than later!

Still, it was good to see Hunt improve, and Milford take more responsibility for kicking, which he already does better than Hunt. We need both halves to be on their game to compensate for the lack of organisation skills and average kicking game, and for a nice change, despite a few errors and a few crap 5th tackle options, Milf and Hunt actually controlled the game relatively well. Widdop having a complete shocker probably helped too, because the Dragons could never muster enough pressure to turn the tide.

Credit to Boyd at the back, as well as Kahu, who was a beast in almost everything he did. Reed was pretty average, Oates didn't much mroe than score his try and Roberts was clearly feeling that hip flexor halfway through the game already.
Moose was his usual self and our best forward, although they were all mostly ok, especially young Ofa who is impressing me more and more.

I'm glad I couldn't watch the game live. Literally fast forwarded about 75% of the game, snooze fest. I'm just annoyed that we're scared to play attacking football.. The last time we played entertaining rugby league was round 25 against Souths last year.. oh and we won that game 47-12.

Even though it isn't pretty we are winning and that's the main thing. 88% completion rate and the fact we kept the Dragons scoreless is what impressed me the most. Even though the Dragons attack is pure shit it's still always nice to keep a team scoreless. Don't think there were to many standouts but Gillett was the standout in the forwards again tackling with vigor and running hard. He has been one of our best players this year, would certainly be in Australian contention.

In the backs Milford stood up from last week laying on that try, scoring another and came up with some good defense as well. Hunt also is showing some form and played well. The rest of the backline weren't that crash hot apart from Kahu who was excellent under pressure and Boyd who made some strong runs. Roberts is still carrying that injury so it's understandable why he is down on form.

Not about us but the Dragons attack is just completely woeful. The effort is there but it's just so sloppy with basically no idea. They bombed a couple of tries, made mistakes you would expect in under 9's and their last tackle options were just poor. The Dragons have got Marshall (yes I know he didn't play) and Widdop as key playmakers, these guys are international players, they've won golden boot awards, they've won premierships, Benji has won a world cup and inspired New Zealand. These guys need to stand up and start delivering what their resume says. Their only good back atm is Dugan who I thought was very good in the second half and did everything he could to get them a chance, made 245 meters and busted 5 tackles and made a couple of line breaks. 40 points and 6 tries in 6 games is unacceptable.

The Dragons are so shit they probably bored us out of the game. They certainly bored me to hell. A win is a win, but that was horrid to watch in terms of entertainment.

Reed was doing the same thing all night, jump into them like a bumper car and hope someone's there to do the rest.

One of those wins that feels like a loss.
Reed is an enigma. He seems to have a reasonable football brain and can somehow get the clear surprisingly often, despite being one of the slowest centres around. But yeah , he is like a bumper car. In fact we have called him "bumper" in our house for the last couple of years. As for the game,I actually went to sleep on the couch in the second half. I think we were a bit lucky to win so by such a margin . Perhaps Saints dropping the ball nearly every time they had some chance of scoring had something to do with it ?

yep v.lucky.. poor dragons fans. they need a more mature head leading their pack, and probably another gun back, oh and of course a culture change. noone gave a **** about screwing up so regularly it seems to me because they had no internal expectations or accountability (except dugan.. man he should be nsw #1 for sure, boyd for qld too on that note)

Mr.Fourex & others glad you saw the bright side.. but anyone who paid or travelled to that game or suffers today for having made the arrangements to watch has every fucking right to be pissed off. sure you wouldnt question your membership (unless youre a dragons fan lol poor *****), but that was bullshit watching

if the bronx are character building or acclimatising to the interchange rules or reacquainting with the grind after the pistol whipped 2015 fairytale, so be it, but i reserve the right to scratch my head and shout out loud 'what the ****' in front of the kids in the crowd after a performance like that from the 26 players and 7 officials - yeah id have stuck around to clap em off if i didnt have kids or an early start or whatever, but if you're an arrium shareholder you'd be furious if you waited til now to say what did i just see unfold.. as a broncos member my support is unwavering but damned if im gonna suck their dicks after watching that shit. "oh we won by 26" **** off. what would the tigers have won by and who would give a shit

/rant

anyway macca seemed to have more mins off again, non? boys were out on their feet again (if not well tested by the drags) but hung in there quite a bit which was kind of pleasing

thaiday.. like almost losing your virginity, lol.. nice, missed that one and it wouldve been the highlight!

I thought Milford and Hunt were great. We've been struggling to play a full 80 mins all games year. But it's the start of the season. Dragons are a team that make you play like them. They're a weird team like that. But the Broncos wore them down and out them to the sword. A good win. A good 2 points a confidence game for Hunt. Can't wait for the Knights. People need to stop complaining stop expecting brilliance every week, it's not gonna happen

Can't help but feel we just strung them along, and played the game plan the coCh told them to play.

They basically followed his half time instructions to a tee. Something along the lines of..

"Wear them down up the middle and finish them towards the back end of the game"

I though we played really well. We didn't need to lay on the attack. Dragons were fucking awful. Everyone wants the excitement of playing the Cowboys each week, well we won't see that.

This says it all for me.

Dugan was best on the park and on that form has to be the NSW FB.

The only thing I take out of this game is 2 points, Hunt getting better and that each game is a stepping stone to the team gelling more in attack with each game. For mine, aside from our great defence, this was a game of individual performances as opposed to a team effort in attack. The Dragons were fucking appalling and as a team, we did **** all in attack so I'll wait for next week.

Winning is great, absolutely, but I'm waiting patiently for some great team attacking football for more than 5 minutes now and then. We are a class above most teams and that is getting us through. I just want that class to display - in team attack, for the whole game.

The way the Dragons played last night, we should have won by more than 50 points.

We hardly ever go for the jugular, it's we get in front & defend the lead. (We did that against the Panthers & lost, we did that against the Cowboys in the GF & lost)

I want my team to humiliate teams, show them no mercy. (it's not much to wish for)

I also want a decent goal kicker, not one that each time he kicks, I am thinking he will miss this & then get excited when he kicks it.
