That win should give the Roosters a lot of confidence.
Souths may not have been at their best, but Sydney had a say in that. The way they opened the game, absorbing Souths attack, asserting themselves physically it took it's toll on Souths and they weren't able to shake it. Suddenly after all that early ball, it seemed as if Souths were rushing trying to conjure up something out of nothing without any real direction. Sydney were able to survive and walk away with a nice upset victory.
It's going to be an interesting couple of weeks ahead for both sides.
Sydney take on Penrith, St George Illawarra and Newcastle. If they can build on what they produced tonight, it wouldn't be surprising to see them go at least 2/3 if not 3/3 and suddenly they're 4-5 and back in the hunt.
Meanwhile Souths have to travel to Queensland in order to play the reigning grand finalists. @ North Queensland then @ Brisbane - it maybe one of the toughest road trips in the game at the moment and if their recent form is any suggestion they could be starring at the barrel of 3-5. If things continue to get worse they could be 3-7 pending what Wests Tigers or Parramatta outfit shows up.
And in the interest of consistency. Last night I was critical of Josh Dugan's performance. Now a lot of people rated that performance, they thought he went well and I can somewhat see their point. Tonight his State of Origin opposite had a shocker and I'm beginning to have some serious concerns over GI. A few weeks back, I thought Dugan out-played GI and if we were weighing up performances I think Duges would get it again on points. I can't count out a champion like GI but his form is concerning.
