POST GAME Round 7 - Broncos vs Storm

The Broncos are just so fucked for a very long time. Boyd, Bird, Milford all signed on huge money, long term deals. Gillett, McGuire well overpaid. And to top it off a coach who is living 20 years in the past. We won't make the 8. Probably looking around 12th. So disappointing. Bennet just has to go.

Was a bit worried about our right side defense coming into the game as they have recently been jamming in. I thought overall it wasn't a bad game by us. It doesn't help when Cameron has the whistle in his pocket and decides to not call any of their forward passes.

This was so frustrating to watch, but I do think there were some good POSITIVE signs.

TPJ and Lodge were terrific. I remember someone last year said that our players are too "buddy buddy" with the Storm and just bend over for them. Well, there you had to players who grew up supporting NSW just not give a single ****. Lodge smashing Vunivalu (?) and TPJ palming Slater were the highlights.

Milford....he's such a talented "instinctive" player. If we can find a real halfback, he can just concetrate on his instincts and do what he does best.

Overall we seem to be getting better too, just very slowly.

There were some real negatives too that need to be addressed by the end of the year hopefully.

We need a real halfback. There is 0 structure so much of the time. According to Johns, McCullough does the organising, which doesn't make sense to me. We looked better than McGuire at hooker ffs. If McCullough does the organising, he needs to fucking stop. Make less tackles too.

Bird has been so unimpressive since we signed him. He needs to start improving soon, real soon.

Finally, Boyd. IMO he just looks completely shot. I feel like his career is almost over. His positioning is the worst I've seen in a long time, probably the worst in the NRL at the moment. He can't really be captain much longer.

I think things can be fixed by looking for a creative/organising halfback, taking workload away from the hooker, and start phasing the dead wood/almost done players out.

Good post mate

I can't be the only one half expecting it to be a land slide to the Storm. We did well to hang in there with them but it's the same shit letting us down, week after week, year after year.

I really thought we would come back and win it there with ten to go.

No, the problem is that it is in the rules that a drop kick must be an attempt for a field goal, otherwise it’s a knock-on. It’s that simple.

That explanation from the ref was possibly the dumbest shit I've ever heard from a ref (and I remember a fair bit of Hollywood's explanations).

Melbourne are prepared to throw some footy at us whereas we just throw one out shit at them. We started getting back into it when we started playing some footy.

So true, however our problem is far too often, our good footie is opportunism, and reactive rather than creating opportunities. I don't blame any individual for this performance. It's the team that's the problem

I never enjoy losing but there were plenty of positives in that game. We paid a heavy price for a lack of cohesion with our backs, but our forwards were great and probably pipped Melbourne's.
Milford played a great game, despite that late error (they happen).
In general our backs were ok but a well drilled side like Melbourne makes you pay for every mistake. We could have dropped our bundle but didn't. Shame that first Melbourne try was given. It might have rattled them if it had been called correctly. As it was they got into the groove and are the best side in the comp when momentum is on their side.

We looked like we had more energy and got over the advantage line easier when McGuire went to dummy half.

There was a moment where the broncos were fighting their way back and kodi had an over lap but was in 2 minds what to do. He either should have showed and went or passed to Roberts straight away. Ended up trying to do an around the body pass and Roberts knocked on. Joffa then got penalised and vuni scored for the storm. Big momentum killer.

You missed subsection c) unless ball is dropped by future Immortal Billy Slater.

Tonight storm just exploded Boyd. i can't understand what he brings in the team. Everyone takes about how good James Robert in attack but his defence is big questions. There is no leader in the play group.
Boyds brings alot, like that cut out pass from the sweep play, he also laughs at the refs alot, and has a pretty slow play the ball and sometimes he will just stand and watch things unfold. He can also fill in for the letter Y in the YMCA dance.
